About
Sunset Valley Golf Course is consistently ranked as one of the best public courses in New Jersey. It is one of four golf courses in the Morris County Parks system and it's considered the toughest. Located in Pompton Plains, the course is nestled in a wooded valley. It has a dramatic topography that provides plenty of ups and downs throughout the golf course. Golfers can expect a variety of elevation changes as well as a few blind shots and forced carries. Strategically placed bunkers come into play along the fast, undulating greens and mature trees line the rolling fairways. Water hazards come into play on a few holes too. Sunset Valley Golf Course's final three holes present one of the area's toughest finishes. The trio begins with the uphill par-5 16th and then finishes with two long par 4s.

Golfer Reviews
Nestled between some small mountains that create nice views,, course layout on front 9 presented some challenge but very fair. Greens have plenty of tricky slopes, make sure you’re on the right side of the pin. Couldn’t review the back 9 since Mother Nature decided to rain heavily locally in the area to abort the round. Will definitely return.
Challenging Greens
The greens are very challenging because of the characteristics of the course by nature but a lot golfers didn’t fix their divots. Also, the price for the golf cart are excessive too.
Beautiful course
Course is in pristine shape and the greens are very difficult. Beautiful place, a little pricey but a lot of fun!
Nice fun course
Tricky greens but fair Price was without a cart so make sure you look at that before booking
home of the 5 hour round
once again another 5 hour round on the weekend, was one of the first groups behind a 30 person outing. there were several holes with that were empty, Rangers do not really try to make people keep pace. seems that management would rather serve alcohol to make money rather than keep pace of play moving. if you want to cater to groups fine, just let the rest of us know, we will go someplace else, i would rather spend 80 or 90 bucks for a 4 hour round than $42 for 5 hours. it is absolutely no fun waiting 5 to 10 minutest to hit every shot. this about the 3rd or 4th time this has happened, so it more of a trend than an anomaly.
i really cant recommend this course, i would be unhappy if someone recommended a 5 hour round.
Challenging course
Excellent course and in great condition! Narrow fairways and need to be an accurate driver. Greens are tricky! Would love to see the burgers precooked so we don’t have to wait 10 mins!
Staff was great as well! Will definitely play there again.
Golf in the hills
It is hilly and can make you work if walking, but in my eyes it is how it should be. Loved the course. Conditions were slightly wet but that's golf. The layout is beautiful and the staff inside and outside were extremely friendly and helpful. We played with 2 added golfers so the pace with 4 was 4:10. Not bad considering the up and down environment of the course. I will be back and would recommend the course highly.
