Sunset Valley Golf Course is consistently ranked as one of the best public courses in New Jersey. It is one of four golf courses in the Morris County Parks system and it's considered the toughest. Located in Pompton Plains, the course is nestled in a wooded valley. It has a dramatic topography that provides plenty of ups and downs throughout the golf course. Golfers can expect a variety of elevation changes as well as a few blind shots and forced carries. Strategically placed bunkers come into play along the fast, undulating greens and mature trees line the rolling fairways. Water hazards come into play on a few holes too. Sunset Valley Golf Course's final three holes present one of the area's toughest finishes. The trio begins with the uphill par-5 16th and then finishes with two long par 4s.

Tee to green was straightforward. The greens are tricky fast and sometimes unfair. A perfect chip (w/ Pro-V) onto the nearest edge of the green with a SW from 10 feet and it rolls off the front? Another SW from 90 feet, landed 1/4 from the front and it rolled off the back. Slick greens. Need to put extra spin on the ball or bump it into the fringe.

Charging for cart - $29

I have been playing this course for years now - make a 25 mile drive to play as the course layout is good. But this last time, I paid $51.00 for the round , and wanted a cart , paid $ 29.00 additional . This is just wrong and the management should do something about this. Not going to play there again , until that changes .

cart rental pricing

booked with golf now for $51 and then was charged

$28 for cart. which included a an extra fee for riding solo because the two other players did NOT show.

I found that excessive and a bit unfair.
