About
Sunset Valley Golf Course is consistently ranked as one of the best public courses in New Jersey. It is one of four golf courses in the Morris County Parks system and it's considered the toughest. Located in Pompton Plains, the course is nestled in a wooded valley. It has a dramatic topography that provides plenty of ups and downs throughout the golf course. Golfers can expect a variety of elevation changes as well as a few blind shots and forced carries. Strategically placed bunkers come into play along the fast, undulating greens and mature trees line the rolling fairways. Water hazards come into play on a few holes too. Sunset Valley Golf Course's final three holes present one of the area's toughest finishes. The trio begins with the uphill par-5 16th and then finishes with two long par 4s.

Enjoyed the scenery and challenges
Loved the various hole challenges and lack of water obstacles, Grass ,just off the fairway ,a little too deep to easily locate balls.
Would easily return for another 18.
Well maintained, great designed course provides excellent value.
The design changes made over the last several years addressed every issue/problem with the course and have resulted in a great golf course. There's not a bad hole out there, and some of the sloped greens are quite challenging.

Great course. Great price. Holes were well maintained and surprisingly difficult. Greens were firm and fast.

Very challenging and well worth the effort to get there. Greens very tricky and true. Great three finishing holes.
The course was great for the money.
The course layout was very good, however being there for the first time and walking, I was glad to have a local player to be paired with. On some of the holes there are several different paths to take and no signs to direct you to the next hole. I would have had to backtrack several times. The course is a little hilly but still a good walk. The staff was outstanding and I look forward to making this a weekly course.
Course was well maintained and very challenging from the back Tees
The course was great value for the money. The pace of play was a little slow but not that bad. The back nine was congested because of a short par 4 and par 3 which forces players to wait. I will definitely go back.
Top Notch County Course
Sunset is a beautiful track.....challenging yet playable. The staff is very nice and helpful. Went out of their way in the pro shop to make me feel welcome. Course is in great shape, but the greens are fast! Would recommend to anyone who wants a great golf experience.
Scenic course and challenging greens
Great course and value. Only issue were the greens were recently air rated.
Average, Course was all right up to 10th hole, but Back 9 was poorly designed.
1. Course Review on 04/20/13. Front 9 was all good, but back 9 was aerated and design was poor.
2. Most of Golf now reservation was CART included, but not this course. Additionally Paid for Cart. Course was not easy to walk for beginner.
3. Staff service was friendly, but more like bureaucrat, instead of public servant even though it was Morris County course.
4. It was County Course, but too expensive for regular golfer without Golf Now.
Nice county course but some slow play
The day was beautiful, the course was in good shape but the play was slow. We had to wait on most holes. Couldn't tell if it was one group up in front or just a backup since the course was very crowded.

County course, in good shape and gets lots of play. big greens interesting layout. Not a simple course.
Terrible
Horribly slow...rude golfers that have no idea how to play golf. Had a rude Korean man come up to me on my fairway during my swing asking me if I had seen his wayward ball and then started arguing with me about speeding up play. I'll never play here again
Very good local course.
The only drawback to this facility is the lack of a driving range. Other than that, the staff was terrific, the course is very well maintained and a lot of fun to play!
