About
Sunset Valley Golf Course is consistently ranked as one of the best public courses in New Jersey. It is one of four golf courses in the Morris County Parks system and it's considered the toughest. Located in Pompton Plains, the course is nestled in a wooded valley. It has a dramatic topography that provides plenty of ups and downs throughout the golf course. Golfers can expect a variety of elevation changes as well as a few blind shots and forced carries. Strategically placed bunkers come into play along the fast, undulating greens and mature trees line the rolling fairways. Water hazards come into play on a few holes too. Sunset Valley Golf Course's final three holes present one of the area's toughest finishes. The trio begins with the uphill par-5 16th and then finishes with two long par 4s.

3 temp greens and hitting on Matts on the par 3s for the winter golf here.
Ok for December
There are a few temporary greens / tees. For $19 to walk it was a good price. Some greens have a lot of ball marks. But for late December it’s pretty good.
Winterizing the Course
Please note that since this is December, the course is closing down for the winter. A good amount of hold (tee boxes and greens) were closed. I am thinking in preparation for the winter season to preserve for 2024 season.
FALL GOLF
Course was in good condition for the middle of November. There were a lot of leaves to contend with (lost some balls)-but that is PAR for the course at this time of the year. Look forward to going back in the spring/summer months

I made my comments earlier today . 2 other items - to the review that this place has “ tour greens “ is smoking serious weed. No high school would play here, or any tour , of any country .
And to the sexist comment of woman walking . Completely out of bounds . Issue why golf is slow is 75% of the men play from the wrong tees . Period stop
Fall golf - beware
No mention of recent aeration. Full price . No water . No cart person . No mention of that either . Play here once every 2 year because 5 of the greens are just in Un puttable due to sever slant . No raking of leaves recently . Just typical lazy county staff and pro staff of any Caring. Also lazy temp Matt l placed on a downhill slant for par 3. Enough said .
Terrible
Great course if you have 7 hours to play a par 70 course. Absolutely a joke, place is crawled with seniors and women that walk. I used to play this place 2-3 years ago and I liked it a lot, so I was curious why there is always tee times when everything else is booked. Let's just say I found the hard way. As I said avoid, not worth it
I absolutely love your staff. Tina is the best. Always great to see a friendly face.
Greens
Tour style greens. Frustrating and terrible for hackers. Beware, you will lose 4-5 strokes on your handicap.
Sunset golf
We really like the course.acuracy is king as the rough is brutal and the greens fast. Great shape and visually gorgeous. Play a little slow as holes are spread out and steep hills and lakes seem to be on every hole. Challenging and still fun for a 13 handicapper.
