Nice public course
You will see plenty of reviews right now stating that the course is not in good shape. No doubt it has been beaten up by the extremes in our weather over the last six months - either soaking wet or hot, hot, hot. SEVERAL area courses have dealt with the same thing.
To me, it seemed obvious that Princeton/Mercer County Golf is trying hard to get the course back in great shape. I found some holes to be in terrible shape (maybe three to four holes), several in adequate shape and a handful in fine/excellent condition.
This was my first time playing Princeton and I walked it. At age 56 I haven't walked a course in a good ten years. This was a joy.and pleasure. Overcast, temps ranged between 70 and 80 during my round - and it was a great walk in the park.
Princeton is not overly long, but you will be challenged to keep your shots straight off the tee and out of the trees. I didn't excel at that today, but was generally able to recover whenever I hit a wayward shot by punching right back out and forward onto the fairway.
I will return for sure and will enjoy seeing the course improve once we get past this season we've had. It will be a regular part of my course rotation from now on.
Needs TLC
Played the front 9 twice has been raining for last couple weeks so it's understandable, the course played well and was playable but it has taken a beating. I was happy and I'll be booking to play there again soon to play the 18.
Want a refund!
Holes #13 through #17 were closed. Course was aerated. fairways were destroyed greens, poorest conditions. No warning from golfnow regarding conditions.
Great tree lined fairways
the staff was very nice. Course was in great shape and there is sand in the traps.
call before you go
I’ve played this course plenty of times in the past but when I booked a tee time this past Saturday holes 13 through 17 were closed and to make matters a bit more complicated they aerated the greens which there was no update on the course condition on golf now. Knowing this ahead of time I would’ve never booked. Very disappointed in the lack of updates on the course.
A dump the fairways did not have grass
Pass on this one ☝️ Looks like they are step away from bankruptcy and turning into Condos
Challenging Greens!
Condition of the fairway is really bad. But one of the best greens around NYC that are fast and deadly where the hole positions were placed.
will not return
Fairways were in poor condition.
muddy and beat up.
greens had many un repaired divots
Pin placement was usually on a slope .
sand in bunkers was hard .
Fun to play
Greens and tee's were in great shape. There was some drainage problems as several holes were cart path only.
Good Value
Decent course with no trouble as long as you stay straight in the fairways. Great greens that slope plenty to keep things interesting.
Pretty nice
Had a nice game but because of the rain there were definitely quite a few drainage issues and mud puddles on most holes.
It was also cart path only which I wish I knew ahead of time. Greens were fine , tee boxes were fine overall. Nice wooded course . Employees were very nice
Nice hidden treasure in Princeton NJ
This is a really nice course and I would love to play it again under better circumstances. It was cart path only and holes 13 thru 17 were closed due to the canal water flooding the course. Overall really nice course for what I played.
b
Good course but drain system is so bad
I'd like to recommend this couse only dry conditon not after rsin or snow.
Great First Impression
I played Princeton CC for the first time yesterday and I was very impressed with the course layout and condition. The starter let me go ahead of an older women who was running late for her tee time which was nice of him to do. The course definitely isn't for the long ball type player. You kind of have to think a little with your tee shots as well as your approach shots on this course. I had to use a long iron a few times on a few holes. I would recommend avoiding a Monday morning tee time, though. The gentleman in the clubhouse told me that there's a men's league that plays on Monday mornings. Just something to consider. All in all, great course, I'm sure I'll be back!
Very impressed
Beautiful course and in very good condition considering recent weather , played on a nice Sunday morning at peak time and got round in 3hrs 40mins everything went smoothly and we will be back for sure
