Great course. Both the 18 hole and 9 hole course

Personally like the 9 hole course better. More fun and still challenging. Overall great course. Some fairways and paths need a little work. Greens kept in condition. Very tough on some holes. However course gets soaked easily has a tad bit of a marsh problem. In a great location. From time to time gets packed. Tee boxes need some work too.

Very average

Pro: Right off the Garden State

Cons: Right off the Garden State

It’s easy to get to and that’s the problem in the most congested area in the most congested state. Slow pace of play and fairly boring for $50. I would play it again if it was $30, but $50 was a special rate. They can charge a lot because of its location. Severe drainage problems. Pass on it.

Test your game!

Galloping Hill is an apt name. Tees and greens are mostly elevated over this rolling terrain. Seems like your always hitting uphill to these greens, requiring extra club

Nice, Well Maintained

Played the course yesterday, and was impressed with the conditions. There was a frost delay, which shows that management truly cares for the courses conditions. The frost delay was handled well by the staff and we ended up only waiting a half hour or so longer than our original tee time.

The driving range looked nice, but wasn’t open until 11am on Tuesday so we weren’t able to warm up before the round.

My only gripe with this course is there isn’t anywhere near enough signage. We ended up at the wrong tee on several occasions. But the worst one by far is the 18th. When you’re on the tee, if you’ve never played the course before, and aren’t regularly checking the score card, you will 100% hit your tee shot down the 9th fairway. Unless you’re hitting from the whites or yellows, you can’t see the 18th fairway at all and there’s no indication of where you should be aiming. The only reason we realized where the correct fairway was, was because the group on the 9th fairway was noticeably not the group we played behind all round. It also looked farmiliar, remembering our tee shots and approaches on the 9th. There needs to be some sort of direction given from the 18th tee.

Other than that, a few blind shots resulting in well struck balls taking a while to locate.

Overall a very nice course, kind of challenging for the high-handicap golfer, and a great challenge for better golfers from the tips. I’ll play it again.

Nice surprise

Fun routing that sits on rolling land with some pretty significant hills and valleys. Course was in good condition and presented some fun holes with good variety. It compares well with the lesser of the Bethpage courses and has a similar feel.

Nice Course at a Great Price

Pros:

Pretty nice course. It's a county course, so everything was a little beaten up, but was also restored as best they could. Sand bottles on carts helped with tee boxes damage and divots. Traps actually had sand in them, something pretty rare for county courses. Greens were kinda weird, as they were sandy, but they rolled pretty true and were quick. Layout were very nice, with every hole being different and challenging in its own way. Carts were nice and were electric. Practice facilities were good, nice big driving range and a bunch of chipping and putting greens. Value was very good, as $30 for as much as we could play was a very good rate.

Cons:

Pace was a little slow, which was expected, as it's a big county course. Like I said before, greens were a little weird. They were not aerated, but still were sandy. Even though they were good, they just seemed and felt a little weird because of the sand. While you are given the option to walk, I would not recommend walking because it is a hilly course, some holes are far apart from each other, and it slows pace down.

Overall, the course was pretty good for what it is. It's a county course, not Augusta, and for a county course, it was very nice. To top it off, $30 was a great rate, and I would definetly play again for that rate.

Descent course

The usual cost for a tee time on this course is 60 dollars. This course is not worth $60. I got a twilight rate of $30, and that is exactly the value of this course. It is fairly short, however I would not recommend walking becuase the layout is poor. Although there are trees on the course, it is fairly open, so you should not be losing many, if any, balls. The course is fairly flat, and reasonable easy.

In conclusion- shop around for rates if you are going to play here becuase some tee times are a rip off. It is fairly nice, flat, and easy. I would recommend riding, and you will definitely enjoy the course!

Championship Golf

There has been great improvements over the last few years and there is still work going on. It is certainly a challenging layout. The greens are much quicker then I remember too.

Course Conditioning and Deep Rough Equals Horrible Pace of Play

Bottom line first, even if the course was in pristine condition, I would only recommend it for players that like extreme changes in a course (e.g., hilly fairways with uneven lies and elevated greens). I would not recommend it for high handicap golfers. The sever rough and number of elevated tees makes it extremely long for most players.

I was looking forward to an afternoon out of the office to play a challenging fun course. The experience at Galloping Hills was very disappointing. And my golf partners (great golfers, handicaps of 7.1 and 6.6) said to me after the round "I will never play this course again."

The course itself is beautiful with rolling hills and should have been challenging but fun. The "fun" was ruined by the following:

(1) Pace of Play - it took 5 hours and 15 minutes to play on a Tuesday afternoon. I have not had a round that long on any weekend all summer. I think a major issue with the pace was the rough. Every group I saw on the holes around me were looking for balls in the rough. A ball rolls two inches into the rough and you can't see it. At one point (four golfers, two from my group and two from the adjacent fairway were looking for balls in an one small area between the two fairways. The rough was also thick and grabbed your club. This is not good for pace of play at a public course.

(2) Poor Course Conditions:

(a) The tees and greens - I saw the reviews about how much nicer the course was since the renovation. Well, the day we played the course condition was awful. The greens had lots of bumps, long gashes like someone had cut into the green and brown (burnt out) areas; as well as, donuts around the holes too. The tee boxes were not much better. For example, the tee on 18 (White and Gold forward tees) had no grass.

(b) The fairways on the front nine were aerated. And we were not told about the aeration in advance.

(3) Sprinkler System Timing: We kept having to wait or time our hits because the sprinkler system kept going on (at least 6 holes we had to deal with sprinklers) and not to mention the soaked turf and wet balls. Why would a course water at 1 p.m. when the course is full of golfers.

On the bright side, the staff was pleasant and the restaurant (bar and grill) excellent.

Good muni / mixture of great holes with some average

Good layout and much improved with the renovation. Several really good holes, but a few lack any real definition or notable characteristics. Overall a fun course and a challenge despite shorter length. Several holes play to elevated greens which is something not seen in more modern courses.

Fairways and rough were in great shape. Greens as of this review are really in rough shape, with post-aeration like top dressing despite not having been aerated. Extremely slow and bumpy - this may resolve over time, will take a few weeks to heal and then you're into aeration season, so might be longer if they do that.

Nice challenging layout, might be pricey to some locals

Galloping is by far an easy course. A good amount of money has be put into the course and club house and its attracting players outside the local area. Yes there are some who thinks the fees are pricey but its definitely who of the best public course in the area.

The staff needs a lesson in etiquitte

Played here Monday morning - beautiful day for golf - checked in with pro shop - paid 60+ dollars and set up cart at first tee. Then it was all down hill - the guy from the pro shop comes out and tells us that it's cart path only. I get the reason for path only - the course was soaked in many places - then don't charge us full boat - I asked why he didn't tell us that before we checked in and he replied "oh, sorry, I forgot" - there was a guy in front of us on all front nine greens changing the pin locations - so we waited each hole - when we did hit up he would move the pin to another location making our putts go from manageable to ridiculous. With no one behind us you would think he would let us play thru. Then there was the maintenance guys with the huge blowers - they wouldn't stop to let players thru - running blowers full throttle near tees and greens - they just didn't care - you would never see that on a respectable course - I'm so disappointed with this experience - it will take a lot to get me back to this course
