Warrenbrook Golf Course
About
Warrenbrook Golf Course is one of five courses operated by the Somerset County Park Commission. Although it is a seemingly mild 6,372 yards from the back tees, don't let the yardage fool you. This course is a formidable test. The layout is very tight, routed through dense stands of mature trees that loom above the fairways and frame the greens. In addition to being heavily wooded, the rolling terrain provides many tricky ups and downs ranging from subtle to dramatic. You'll be hard-pressed to find a flat lie on this golf course and you should also be prepared for a few blind shots. To top it all off, there are also a few strategically placed bunkers. Your accuracy will be put to the test at Warrenbrook Golf Course, as will your course-management skills.

RAIN!
The course was in ok condition. The fairways and greens were very nice. Tree lines were majority dirt.
For the money it was playable. Not long and a little quirky in the hole design.
Overall a fun course for the hybrid and iron player.
Course has no food or beverage service except vending machines.
Warren Brook
Played on Sunday 18 holes with a friend and had a great time. The staff was very friendly and helpful but there is no ranger. The pace of play was good. The course is in really good shape. The tee boxes need water lots of water and a few trees need to be trimmed. There is no snacks just a vending machine to purchase a drink and that is at the 1st hole only. This course is a good mix of galloping hill and ashbrook. I would definitely play here again and anyone thinking about playing golf this season put Warren Brook on your list. Thank you golf now for the HOT DEAL!!!
WarrenBrook Golf Course
I played at WarrenBrook golf course yesterday. I gotta say it was awesome. The staff is terrific. I had a 2:50 tee time and got there very early to warm up and putt around the starter got me out an hour earlier. The course is a great mix of Galloping Hill and Ashbrook golf course. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone wether you are just starting out or a seasoned player. The course is in fantastic condition I will definitely be playing a few more rounds there this year. Thank you golf now for the hot deal. Only $30 with the cart!
Scorched
The course is pretty narrow and underdeveloped; lots of forest. The design would make for decent play if it was maintained. Strange that the 9th hole does NOT lead you back to the clubhouse?
No rangers on the course?!
The course is bone dry. My 300 yard drives were rewarded with large bounces off the fairway into the woods, hardly any shots hit the fairway and stayed on.
Hit a green side bunker shot perfectly except that the ground was rock hard under 1/4" of sand and sent my ball twice the distance.
The greens appeared to be good, but a close look revealed many weeds growing along with the grass. Impossible to get consistent ball roll on the greens when they have weeds. Fast-slow-fast, impossible. Poor maintenance, poor greens.
My group experienced the same problems. We were disappointed with the course and will not return. For a course that charges $56 on Sunday, they must water the course.
The quality could easily improve with water and pesticides but that's up to them.
A Hidden Gem
Played on a Saturday mid-afternoon and never waited on any tee. GolfNow deal was 33 w/cart, its a challenging layout, with some interesting holes, and in reasonable condition. Only drawback was no grill or any refreshments of any sort except soda machines. It was a very hot humid day so we appreciated the cold bottled water available on several holes but sure could have used a beer at the turn.
A great course
Had a great time playing at Warrenbrook.
Play pace is ugly
The problem I have is that no one inform you that there iare leagues and high school kids that play the first 4 holes and the last 5, this leave the players aproaching the 14 tee with a 30 or more minutes backup.
That is disgusting.
Please give me the option by notifying me ahead of time.
2nd time playing - still trying to figure this course out
Got a great deal on golfnow for $20 with cart (the closer you wait until the actual tee-time, the better somerset county tends to cut the rates), questionable weather day as they were forecasting a chance of thunderstorms. The first thunderstorm cell hit us on the first par 5 (#5), a tough hole as it is anyway. 30 mph gusts from left to right. My first ball went into the other fairway on the right. on the second shot, aimed way left and put a provisional barely in the fairway from the back tees. Took a 7 after hitting a 6-iron into the wind (two club wind, even downhill) and two-putting it on the green.
I was surprised when the guy I got matched up with said the greens were just aerated the morning I played (Monday). some courses really put huge holes in the greens. These were like pinholes (and not the entire green it seemed like), and really didn't affect the putting all that much. I am about a 15 handicap and birdied 9 for a 44 on the front. the first storm passed without any rain, sliding to our south. On 14 (another really long par 5, deep dogleg right and downhill), the showers started from another t-storm cell. then things got hard, I took a 50 on the back. 94.
Most of the holes you really have to keep it in the fairway. The rough is really thick and long in spots, certain areas they let the fescue grow in (or tall grass), this course eats a lot of balls. The greens will probably even be better after the aeration, they could use a good cut and roll. If you are off the fairway (even by about 10-15 yards), get ready to master using punch shots to keep you in play. Pretty easy to get to from chatham/summit, taking local roads down the watching reserve / valley. This is my second time there and my ballstriking wasn't quite what it was in the late winter when I played. Can be walked, but the included cart helps a lot. you will get a workout here, the front 9 plays up the side of the mountain and the back 9 plays gradually down into the valley / clubhouse. Par 5's are really difficult, all three of them. The back 9 has a very untraditional layout, 7 par 4's, 1 par 3 and one par 5. The trees also grew in and there you go with the punch shots. Was interrupted on 14 by a golf league (they played 2, then 14), but luckily they let me through after one group to join the twosome in front of me.
Staff seemed non-chalant. I was a few minutes late and the clubhouse attendant said "you're late, there's a twosome out on the tee, go join them". No starters on the course, the local I played with said there are never starters there. self-policing is evident.
Need a ranger if you're looking for 4 hour round
Haven't played Warren Brook in years, but a friend recommended it and shared the course was in very nice shape. It was, and overall enjoyed the round.
However, we played behind a clueless foursome that were agonizingly slow to the point where we called the clubhouse after 4 holes. "We don't have any one who can help, we're short staffed today". Two holes open in front, we would have skipped past but for the couple we were playing with were walking and therefore made it difficult.
Folks, play ready golf and be cognizant of your pace of play. The target of 4 hours was sadly hit halfway through the back nine, and 5 hours later we completed the round.
Course is in nice shape, just don't expect to hit the four hour mark.
Classic,old style layout
This is my go-to course. Close to work and easy to get out. Like all public courses in the area high school teams start at 3. So definitely get out before then if you're an afternoon player. The old fellas and ladies league go out in the morning but they are fast.
The mountain rules on this course. Always play the terrain especially on the greens which visually will fool you.
not crowded
I play in the afternoon, not many people playing at that time. Narrow fairways scare a lot of players away but makes you improve your accuracy.
Great course for the value
I played this course as a first time due to the price. Great for what it was! I would play it again!
Somewhat challenging, but worth playing
It can be little bit frustrating if you are playing for the first time since few fairways and greens are hidden. However, I've really enjoyed playing here. I wish they had a better green conditions, but I guess it will be better from May. To play good here, you must drive straight~
A mystery
I understand aeration but, why would you aerate in December, when the grass does not grow and have lousy greens until the middle of May. Do not play here until then, any putt over 12 inches was pure luck. it is still a fun layout and enjoyable to play when conditions are better. Slow play, no ranger, and bring food and drink as there is none there.
Nice but Narrow
I've played here many times (pretty much was my "home" course) and each time still poses a challenge. Fairways are definitley a premium because of the narrow fairways. Although if you hit shots to the right, you'll usually be on another fairway so you can find your shot but dont think you will get it over the trees. Also there are some blind shots so knowing the course and or having a GPS helps. Its walkable, so long as you enjoy the challenge of walking up and done some hills lol. Overall, its a solid course for the $$$.
Walking friendly but be prepared for the Hills
The greens were perfect. The fairways were in great condition. The rough had some areas were the lack of rain took its toll and made for some hard surface shots.
The main defense to par is the elevation change and sloping fairways. The dry conditions made for a lot of role and much of down the slope to the right or left of the fairway.
I did not use the club house. But as I walked though it looked a bit dated and could use some TLC. That is why I did to rate the food and gave the overall a average. It was typical of a many muni course clubhouse. The course itself is in better condition than the clubhouse.
Overpriced for average course, rude staff
I've played this course before and thought it was just average, but some friends were going, so I joined their foursome. Staff was particularly snarky and rude, especially the guy in the office, who was very impatient with all of us and contradicted himself when asked about the rates.
The starter was no better, giving us grief for not arriving 20 minutes early (we got there about 10-12 minutes before our tee time) and acting like he was doing us a favor getting us out.
Course is just OK and is overpriced, especially if you don't have a county course.
You can do much better elsewhere.
Slow play ruined a very nice day
Course is very nice, well kept. But pace of play was horrible. no rangers which seems to be the norm nowadays. Its a shame.
I'm shocked to read your review I played yesterday and the tee boxes definitely needed water and I agree the trees need to be trimmed but that being said. This course is not terrible at all. As a 6 handicap my advice to you would be to keep it in the fairway and lay up. Use your irons on this course.
