Preakness Valley Golf Course - West

Too many foursomes in front of us were playing multiple balls, spending 10 minutes every hole looking for every ball and goofing around. It's hard enough to get 18 in when you tee off at 4:40 and the carts are expected to be returned before 8:30. We were hoping someone would have come to control the groups in front of us but it didn't happen. We ended up having to wrap it up on #14.

Conditions on The East course are as good as I’ve ever seen and I’ve been playing here over 40 years. Greens were immaculate, maybe a tad slow after a rainy week. Beautiful, level tee boxes. Nice fairways. Starter got us out on back nine at 4:45pm as there was a league on front 9…our twosome finished before 8pm…thanks.

Course was in great shape. Pace of play was good.

Unfortunately the rains came when we were on the 3rd hole. Course was very accomodating and gave me a rain check. Considering the convenient location, I'll be back.

This is the first time playing this course since it changed from Passaic County Blue/Red. I was pretty impressed with the course condition since the change over.

I’ve never played this East course. Played the West course a few times. I was pleased with the course layout and would definitely played this course again.

I invited a friend from Bergen County and she was very impressed with the course and the conditions it was in. She is looking forward to playing this course again in the near future.

Pace of play was great and she even commented about how fast it felt we played. She indicated that this was just another indication of what a great day of golf we had.

Other than the starter and Alexa at the restaurant, all other staff we encountered appeared to hate being there when we arrived for our rainy morning tee time. At the end of our round the restaurant staff were again great. Notable was Jordan and the lady behind the bar.

Rain or shine, the golf staff need to be more professional. Like the starter was.

First golf course ever! The weather was nice, the staff were kind, and even though there were a lot of golfers in the afternoon, perhaps BC the rangers kept going, it didn't get pushed back, and it was a great day to have beer at the 19th hole.^^

We were pleasantly surprised at how great this course was. Looking forward to going back.

Yes, super over booked for a Sunday but worse than expected for a public course, the pace of play was not regulated didn’t see a ranger all afternoon. This 36 hole course could be one of the best in the state or north east/ but it’s not.

The 2:20 4some on east course on 6/11/23 ahead of us had 2 walkers doing a lesson. Hitting 3-4 ball off each tee box then spending 10 mins looking for the balls all over the place. Then spending 5-10 mins on the green doing a putting lesson. Luckily they only played 9.

The guy teaching the lesson claimed to be a 12 handicap, laughable, the guy couldn’t hit a fairway ALL DAY let alone the broad side of a barn. The 2some matched with them and the guy giving the lesson we’re playing from the blues and of course they had no business playing from there.

The course was so backed up there were 3 4somes waiting on each hole on the last 7 holes. What could have been a 4 hour day was more like 5+ hours.

I digress, You really can’t do much about morons playing from the blues but the guy who couldn’t even hit one ball well all day giving a “lesson” should be banned for life- not for giving a lesson but 100% for claiming to be a 12 handicap. Lying in golf is worse than being a bad golfer. Id rather play with someone that can’t break 100 than a liar.

The bathrooms were atrocious but I’m glad the court spent a million dollars to build a useless circle of grass between the restaurant and pro shop.

Couple of the fairways on the east course don’t make any sense. 200 yard par 3’s didn’t quite fit.

Staff I met or talked to was all great from the started to the cart girl, no issues there the staff was wonderful.

The $80 price tag for a course that made me prefer to use the PORT-O-JOHNs over their bathrooms was a big problem. I’ll spare you any photos. I’m not likely to return.

Make sure you are listening for “Four”s because they fit a really clean course in a smaller space. Especially the front 9. Also, bring your bug spray; was a bit overrun with gnats/mosquitos when we went. It was also our first time playing there; some of the staff was confusing about where to get your carts versus check in and overall really nice and friendly.

Can’t wait to go back and try West and would happily play this course again.
