GEM. Felt like a private country club
We played the East course. Greens were terrific. Fairways were plush and well maintained. The pace of play was excellent. The 19th hole in the clubhouse was well stocked and enjoyable.
A terrific day at a terrific course.
Maintained like a private G.C.
Mercer Oaks never disappoints, and I look forward to playing there since there are two courses to choose from, both very enjoyable.
A nice little taste of links golf (Without links weather)
For some reason the East course at Mercer Oaks doesn't seem as popular as the traditional West. I think that it's a great layout and not as challenging as one might think. There is ample room on the sides of (most of) the fairways. Plenty of room to lay-up or bail out (whichever term you prefer) and nice sized and well groomed greens. It is a fun course to plot around. Try it and enjoy!
Standard Links Style Course, nothing special.
Played East course, Links layout. Fairways and Greens in good condition, some tee boxes needed minor work. Ranger was constantly around, kept play moving, but felt uncomfortable as we were behind 4 Walkers and reminded we were 7 min. behind. On tee box told we had 14 min per hole and we had used up 5 already, 4 golfers and we all hit off. Don't think I'll ever play here again.
A VERY GOOD COURSE IN PRINCETON
CONDITION IS GOOD,STAFF FRIENDLY,I PLAYED EAST COURSE,NEXT TIME WILL TRIED THE WEST COURSE.
SEE YOU THERE!
For a non-resident, this course is not worth the extra money to play on the weekend.
West course: With all of the rain we have had this summer, I was surprised to see the fairways and rough in such spotty conditions. The greens and bunkers were in great shape, but too many bare and dried out spots on the fairways and first/intermediate cuts of rough along the fairways and around the greens. Pace of play for a foursome was better than expected - only 4.25 hours with no stop for lunch. For the money as a non-county resident, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.
Course has undulating greens and strategic sand traps. You can score if you place your shots. It is a challenge but fair
Course has always been well maintained to pristine. 17 was beat up because of the heat and constant rain, but with care the whole course should bounced back to it's original self. Mother Nature will have to comply.
Great value
Great Value!
Second time playing at Mercer Oaks. First time on the East course. Nice wide fairways but many traps (133) make it quite difficult unless you place the ball perfectly. The course was in good shape. Great facility and the beverage girl was always there on the hot day! Would definitely play again. Would try the West the next time.
Great Course
Very new to golf but me and some of my more experienced friends enjoyed this course very much. Holes were all well kept staff was friendly. Only issue were a very slow group which was spoken to several times, before the course ranger instructed us to go around them and come back to the hole afterwards, and the sprinklers coming on while putting. Not sure if this is a common occurrence or was only because it was almost 100* that day but got wet a few times. Overall great course in my inexperienced opinion and plan to go back!
Overall Great Value
Mercer Oaks is a great facility with two 18 hole courses. I played the East course which is a links style layout. I live outside of Mercer County, so the rate paid through Golf Now was considerably less than I would have paid otherwise. The conditions were surprisingly dry considering the daily downpours we have been getting daily for the past two weeks. For a county owned facility, the greens were fast and rolled true. There is a lot of really tall fescue, but you really had to hit a poor shot to be penalized by it. I have played other courses where the fescue is more in play and it is frustrating because it penalizes slight miss-hit and slows down the pace of play to a crawl. They layout is straight forward a bit boring. I also do not like bunkers in the middle of fairways that penalize good shots. The pace of play was good and we would have been done in less than 4 hours if the group in front hadn't slowed on the final 3 holes. Overall a very good course, but not as good as the more traditional West course.
Cant wait to go back
It was my first time at Mercer Oaks, and I really enjoyed it. I think the course was in very good condition, not very crowded. I am used to much narrower fairways, and challenging tee boxes, so this was a bit easier off the tees. Would definitely like to go back soon and try the West Course, and play East again.
Needs a little work
Grass was quite long in the rough/greens, course is in average condition, WEST course is much better
Good value for the $45 dollar green fees
This is the nicest public course I have played since I moved to NJ about a year and a half ago. The greens were in good shape. The staff was courteous and helpful. For the price I paid on golfnow, it was well work the money.
Great course for the price
The east course was in great shape when we played, even after all the rain leading up to it. Its one of the view links-style courses in the area, and is a blast to play. There's a bit of everything, from short, but challenging, par 4s to longer par 5s. For the most part, the staff does everything they can to make sure everyone on the course gets the most out of it, while maintaining a good pace of play (the scorecard's pace is 4:12, and we finished ~4:25).
Links Style Golf is great for those who do not shoot Darts off the tee box, WIde Open and forgiving, but bring your Sand Bucket at Shovel!!!!!
Very nice couse. On Saturday June 8'th it was Cart Path Only. There was no reason why you could not ride your cart in the fairways. If it is Cart Path Only, you should not have to pay for a Cart. The amount of walking you have to do at Mercer Oaks East as a result of Cart Path Only rule, is the same as walking with a push cart.
I was very disappointed with the fact that I had to do so much unnecessary walking..........
Links style course, lots of bunkers, a few bumpy greens
Mercer County East course is a links style course; fairly open with exception of a couple of holes on back nine where tree stands line the fairways. Lots of fairway and greenside bunkers that are difficult to avoid but bunkers were in good condition. Overall condition of the course was good/very good although the greens on a few holes were bumpy but otherwise in good shape. The rain canopy on the back of the cart was torn and would not stay in upright position which interfered with club transfer in and out of golf bag.
I'll be back
First time playing Mercer Oaks, and we hit the East links course. Everything about the facility was good. Good practice putting area, driving range, clubhouse, and the course was in real good shape. Definitely a busy place, but thats expected on a friday afternoon.
This facility has 2 great courses.
Personally prefer the East course (Link Style). The West course has considerable challenges and very subtle greens. Both Courses always well maintained. Country Club environment at a County coarse.
Went Back the Next Day!
This is a Mercer county course that can rival the area's private clubs but without the hefty price tag, especially through GolfNow! Played the West course on Sunday and had to go back to try the East course the next day. Both courses are very well maintained with fast challenging greens. Some very memorable holes like the par 5 hole 7 going left and right with 11 bunkers to dodge.
Nice Links Feel
This course was a real nice track. It had a good links feel, conditions were nice and pace was great for a weekend. (Under 4 hrs) I recommend this for anyone looking for a reasonable round on a nice course.
