Westwood Golf Club

I swore I wouldn’t return to Westwood a couple years ago, but a friend invited me for an early morning round. I was pleasantly surprised with very nice greens, well maintained fairways & rough/bunkers and many trees trimmed for better play. Will watch for deals to come back.

I moved to the Philadelphia area four years ago and Westwood was the first course in the area that I played. At that time, it was fairly beat up cosmetically in spots and was easy to pass up for other courses in the area.

As noted in the title however, this course has come a long way. Over the last ~6 months or so, my opinion of the course has completely shifted thanks to lots of progress made on the greens, fairways and overall appearance of the course itself. This course has become more of a home course for me, as opposed to a second or third choice of place to tee it up. Furthermore, the staff has always been pleasant and accommodating.

I've always been a fan of the course layout - it is forgiving in spots and will raise your score in other spots; exactly what I would look for in a course (playable, but still a challenge). While the pace of play can be a deterring aspect of this course, I would argue that you rarely find a decent public course that doesn't have issues from time to time with the number of people on the course and general pace of play.

All-in-all, I believe Westwood has come a long way in recent days as it relates to overall appearance, enjoyment, and the ability to bring players back for more rounds. Its become more of a home course for me and as long as I'm living in this area, it will remain one of my favorites in the area.

Would recommend this course to any fellow golfer - whether a high handicapper or a scratch golfer. Cheers!

We arrived at a time when their was a forecast for thunderstorms. Spoke with pro shop and decided to pay for nine and go on to play 18 if storms held off. Upon completing the front nine, I was approached by the starter who told me “you can’t just go through and play whatever holes you want and you haven’t paid for the back nine.”He was very rude and condescending. He wanted to know how we finished the front nine so soon. I told him that being a twosome, several groups let us play through and we had indeed played every hole. I am not sure if he would have had that same attitude with a male player.

I really enjoyed the course, it had a great layout with generous fairways for a rightie with a slice but it was definitely over booked. Regularly had three groups on each hole at once (Waiting at the teebox, waiting on the fairway, finishing putts… not even just par 5s) which made it feel like the most rushed and yet slowest round I’ve ever played. It took two and half hours to get to the turn mostly due to waiting at every tee for two groups ahead of us to go, while the group behind us was already waiting.

Overall I’d play again, but not on a weekend.

I played a Golf Now Hot Deal with a buddy for $25 each. We were paired with a walker who paid $45. He said he saves money not taking a cart. From tee box to green, with fairways in between, this course was more than worth the money. Conditions of all kinds were excellent. Grass - Fabulous, Staff - Friendly, Layout - Perfect for me. I only drive the ball about 220-250. Really cool to start with 2 par 5's in the first 3 holes. Can't think of a single reason why you wouldn't play this course. I drove an hour to do it! Had an errand to run, and if I have another, I'll be playing here again.

Challenging course and greens in great condition. Pace or play also very good

I just went back after a long time due to the course was in terrible condition. They have made a concerted effort to get the course up to standard. There are a lot of new changes and the course is getting much better..Today I only got to play 9 holes because of rain but I would go back.

The Green are immaculate! The fairways are coming around!

There has been a lot of change as far as course work but has a lot more to do. They have to have a better system as far as getting your golf bag to the carts. It’s very inconvenient. I hope they figure out how to make that easier

The new ownership is definitely putting in the work to get the course where it needs to be which is great to see. The greens were the fastest they’ve ever been. They’re not perfect but they’re getting there. It’s not perfect but it looks like it might be turning the corner. Hoping the improvement continues.

The course was in excellent condition! Left out at 11:30, finished at 3:30, while having a few cold beers at the 19th hole, it was obviously the twilight rounds were getting a little backed up. Course was is tremendous shape.

The rond was 5 hours long mainly because of 90% rule - also the biggest problem I saw was the fact that you had to carry your clubs to the starter to get a cart - then you had to leave the cart with the starter and carry your clubs to your car - after a long round that was the last thing I wanted to do.
