Glacial Pace of Play
Not bad, but certainly not great. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were in fair shape. The hazards were minimal, with a few sand traps and water that comes into play on three holes. Perhaps it was because it was Memorial Day, and more people than usual were out, but the pace of play was glacial which resulted in a 4:45 hour round. The group of five in front of us didn't help. At one point we saw six players on another green ... yikes! I don't believe I've ever seen that before. The significant amount of time between many of the strokes made it difficult to get into a rhythm. The pace of play and the fact there was nothing remarkable about the course means there is no reason to return if ever in the area.
This was the second time where we were told our pace of play was too slow (although the first was because a twosome was power-walking and the staff told us our pace was fine). Finished all 18 in sub-four hours as a group of three. Admittedly we are amateurs, but that’s why we are playing at NMSU. Maybe it would be helpful to start groups off at the front and back nine rather than all at one.
New México Golf course experience
This is a great place to spend a Saturday playing gold with friends...
Course/refund
The course has a real nice set up. Ad thing driving range is not by course cannot take golf cart to the range. They could not refund one of the green fees for a guy that got sick and couldn’t play. They got paid for it they the app said golf now would have to refund??? They got paid
Good Value
The staff was congenial and accommodating
The course conditions were average, but perhaps I evaluate that way because I spent a long time in southwest Florida where conditions are typically superb on country club courses. And I recently played Red Hawk in Las Cruces which, in comparison, was superior.
The layout held a few challenges but overall, it wasn’t very difficult. My second time playing the course should be helpful because there were a few areas of trouble I didn’t discover until it was a but late.
The pace of play was excellent even when I played the back 9 as a single with a foursome that included walkers in front of me. The rangers patrolled the course very well.
Given that I booked the tee time with a teeoff.com deal, it was an excellent value.
One of the best courses in the Southwest
This is an exceptional course and well maintained. Awesome experience will be back. Staff was friendly and helpful. Wind was bad, but still a great fun and challenging course. I will be back to play it on a better day.
