Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

Young ranger couldnt speed up the pace of play. Golf course over booked players.

The ranger was 15 years old nobody took him seriously, he drove around once. The golf shop allowed to many people to book. The slowest round of Saturday golf Ive ever played in my life. Went home after hole 15 - terrible experience…

This is one of my favorite courses. I think it is a little overpriced so I'm grateful for any discount. There are a few greens that need to be addressed surprisingly this early in the year.

Nice golf course

Course was in nice shape. Landing areas are generous. Greens were not fast, but smooth and consistent. Fairways were fairly lush. Sand in bunkers was a little bit inconsistent. Overall, for the money you pay, I can't complain. I will be back.

Pace of play

I love this course. The staff are wonderful. But the starters/rangers DO NOT care about pace. Know before playing here that if you get caught behind a slow group you either have to play through them if you can or you are going to wait a lot because the rangers aren’t going to do anything about it. They will instead drive out to you and explain WHY the group is playing slowly??? They’ve also lost some big patches on some of their greens which I’m sure they’re VERY aware of. Again, I love playing here but they have to work on pace. It’s a part of golf.
