About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

A good average muni
I mean good average because although the layout is fairly pedestrian the conditions were good enough. The putting surfaces were the defense on an otherwise defenseless course. Lots of relatively forgettable holes. Good place for locals looking to get a casual round in but it’s not going to be much of an interest for advanced golfers. I wouldn’t travel too far out of your way to get to it but if you want a practice round it’s a fairly priced option.
A bit Wet Cart Path Only with some hills got us tired.
Great Sunday Of Golf!
Got a great deal for a round of golf at Putnam County Golf Course today! Course was in good shape (a little soggy in places but we did have rain recently) and weather was Unbelievable! Great Course and Great Day!
First timer
Nice course and well maintained. Friendly staff. One thing I would say is that for those that use GPS watches, the course has been changed. I didn't know this and thought my watch was crazy. Would be good if this got sorted out.
Nice Course Always Slow Play
Nice Course Always Slow Play. Group in front of us held up golf course all day. Not uncommon at Putnam. Never a ranger to move things along.
Don’t play on Sunday’s… 5-hour rounds
The course is nice, but they do an awful job managing pace of play.
a good experience
Staff was helpful. We started on the back nine and we came around to play the front nine a new foursome went out between us. Slow day 5 hours plus due to residual rain and use of cart paths only.
Way too many tee times
The course itself is nice but they schedule tee time every 6 minutes which leads to large backlogs. Have only golfed there once where it was not over a 6 hour round
An absolutely horrible experience
I played today and paid $72 as a non resident. I was robbed! Fairways as long as the rough! No sand in any bunker. Greens bumpy as aall get out.Please do not use rain a week ago as an excuse! I work at a nearby public course and we have mowed fairways 3 times in 5 days. This place was a joke!
Okay
Someone was getting a lesson on the range hitting driver into 8 and 9 fairway. Almost got hit on both holes without him or the club pro yelling FORE. Other than that the golf course was as expected.
