About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

Great course
I’ve played Putnam several times in the past and not so distant past. The course is in great shape, starters and pro shop staff are friendly and sharp. I will say that some of the course maintenance people need to be mindful of the golfers on the course when we are teeing off and putting. Lastly there should be staff present at the range because range balls were being hit all over the place, the twosome in our group almost got hit twice by curiously struck balls.also the 8 and 9th hole had range balls all over the fairways.
Great Course That Put Players Through a Good Test.
Putnam Country Golf Course is a moderately challenging course with just the right amount of dog legs that make you NOT just hit driver off the tee. Fairways were great and the rough was long enough to make for a hard shot if you had to shoot from there. Clubhouse was great. Greens were also challenging with different speeds. Great course that I will for sure play again.

Immaculate Greens
Speedy smooth greens. A fair test of skills. Just enough challenge to get in and out of trouble. “STAY BELOW THE HOLE”
Course in great shape: greens are challenging
I’ve play this course dozens of times in recent years and this is the best chapel I’ve ever seen it. Greens a little tricked out and fast. Staff is always friendly and accommodating. Place of play on a Friday afternoon a little slow …4:30 he round. Still recommend highly.

The best public greens Ive played on in 25 years. A true gem for the cost. Play with someone who knows where to miss it will help.
