About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

Not the worst, but not coming back.
I left after hole 9 due to the following:
The course clearly just recently had the greens aerated as they still were not even... the remainder of the course is not very well irrigated (water doesn't pass through and get absorbed it just sits) it rained a few days before and EVERYWHERE I WENT WAS MUD.
The course is fine, I'm sure its a decent course on its best days... However for the price I'd much rather play a slew of other courses, as an example for the same price I could have really enjoyed Saxon that day.... Anyways always good to try a new course so I gave it a shot, but I will not be returning.

Winds whip at this course. Back 9 worse then front 9. Had a few nice shots. Par 5’s are long and course had its challenges. Always a pleasure playing there. Staff is very helpful and friendly.
In Good Shape; Greens best I've seen in years
Always a decent pace of play. Kudos to the rangers on the course to keep things moving at a busy time. Fun course to play. Not overly challenging and fairly open. Used to have a great bar before COVID, but the outside terrace is a safe and friendly place. The course is well managed all around.
Over 5 hrs long is too long
The green and fairway are absolutely perfect! Front 9 is much easier play than back 9. Front 9 is also safer than back 9 of not being hit by a golf ball. Each one of us almost got hit from a golf ball within 15’. There are not many trees around between the 2 fairways. So the chance of getting hit is very easily. First time playing here and the pace of play are just ridiculously slow, and we will not be returning to play here again.
Starter
The guy had a bad attitude. Fifty carts available and insisted that we don’t put our bag in the cart until 5 minutes before teeing off. Unheard off!!!!
