About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

PUTNAM IS A DELIGHT !!!
First time playing at Putnam but the course layout was nice (doglegs and water holes) and beautiful views. ...the greens are the winner here - very challenging - all undulations and extremely fast ... I will be back

Excellent Putnam County Course
By far this is the best course in the area. Greens are impeccable, staff are super friendly, pace of play is perfect and the price is ideal. I would go as far as saying you won’t find another course within 50 miles that offer the same golf experience.
Disappointing 9 hole experience
Played Putnam because it was local. Front 9 is fun with each hole different. Back 9 is awful - very windy, 5 holes that are almost identical and run parallel to each other, increasing the chance of getting hit by golfers in adjacent holes. Were told at last minute by starter we had to play back 9 - not happy about that. Overall course condition was good and the clubhouse is immaculate. Lunch staff was very friendly and the burger was terrific.
Not worth the higher than average costs, especially for holes 10-18.
Not the worst, but not coming back.
I left after hole 9 due to the following:
The course clearly just recently had the greens aerated as they still were not even... the remainder of the course is not very well irrigated (water doesn't pass through and get absorbed it just sits) it rained a few days before and EVERYWHERE I WENT WAS MUD.
The course is fine, I'm sure its a decent course on its best days... However for the price I'd much rather play a slew of other courses, as an example for the same price I could have really enjoyed Saxon that day.... Anyways always good to try a new course so I gave it a shot, but I will not be returning.
