Putnam County Golf Course
About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

Always in great shape
Great bang for your buck considering the condition the course is kept in.
Sloooooooooow
Nice little course, but a round there should not take 5+ hours!!!! No ranger to be seen on the course all day, waited at every single hole.
Golf for Snails
It's too slow in the afternoon. Waiting on two groups on the tee by the tenth hole. 5 1/2 hours is too slow and no rangers at all pushing people along. I don't think I've ever heard "fore" so many times in a single round.
Good Muni
decent pace of play for a Monday. Kept within C 19 rules and singles in carts. treated well and had cart girl out there also, very nice on a weekday. Course in good condition. Greens are always the toughest part of this course but in great shape. No matter your handicap you will enjoy this.
Nice layout
Had a great time. Nice layout, friendly staff. Will be back for sure
What a course
Played this course for the first time in 5 years today and wow, has it changed for the better. Use to play here almost every weekend when I was in high school because it was so cheap and the course was okay at best. But wow, was it nice today. First the staff was extremely helpful starting with the check in, telling us where we’re teeing off from, etc. the tee boxes and fairways are so much nicer then I remember them ever being when I use to play here often. The greens were a little but slow but that might have been because we just got rain last night. Only complaint I would have is the pace of play. I was paired with two other guys and the front 9 went great. Had to wait a little bit at each tee box but that’s normal at any busy course on a Friday afternoon. The back 9 was totally different. A foursome was playing so slow in front of us, that it held up at least 3-4 different groupings on the back 9. The group was chatting it up after every shot, wouldn’t get off the green after finishing the hole, taking way to long to take each shot (acted like they were pros when they really weren’t that good) They should definitely have someone checking in on the pace of play throughout the day because people don’t want to spend 5 6 hours playing 18 holes. Other then the pace of play, I had a great afternoon playing here and would definitely recommend it for anybody looking to play for a reasonable price. Will definitely be back soon!
Nice course for the money
Easy course to get an online tee time. No sign of marshal during our play. Three some in front of us were playing two balls each the entire time. Nice course for the money. Course is in good shape.
Never heard “fore” yelled so many times...
Course was fine and staff was friendly. Course held up surprisingly well after downpour the night before. The group in front of us on the course were terribly slow. Fairways are all right near one another with minimal tree protection. We were ducking from balls all day and saw multiple people within a few feet of getting hit by balls. This needs to be addressed somehow.
