Great course
I started in the back 9 and when we got around to the front it was backed up. They let me play the back 9 again and it was wide open!
Too many blind shots
Course was in excellent shape but since this was my first time playing here, I felt the blind shots were tough to manage, and especially when you have golfers out there who don't abide by the rules (ring the bell after your second shot for instance) as we were hit upon a couple of times. Also, golf shop employee wasn't aware that I had paid through golfnow. Not sure if this was an attempt at having me pay twice or just an honest mistake. Once I told him I had paid already he kind of mumbled and said ok.
Great Golf Course
I first booked my tee time for the day prior but when i arrived the course was closed. I called the next day and the course agreed to honor the price we paid. When we arrived the attendant at the pro shop was adamant that we had to pay an extra $40 to play the course as booking with golf now was only a retainer, He had to get a manager to explain that we had paid in full and he seemed to be upset about this and was a bit snotty. The Course was a whole different story with beautiful scenery, great holes with challenges that everyone in my threesome could play. I would definetly play this course again.
disappointed
Knew they had punched greens but didn't know only the front 9 was available
Consistently bad pace of play. All. The. Time.
SSIA.
I should've known better than to play here on a weekend, but I got a good price on the GolfNow app and decided to play. The available tee times that were showing online, made it appear like it would be wide open. It was for the first four holes. Considering that you can see the first three holes from the first tee, I wasn't expecting to hit traffic on the fourth because there was nobody on the first 3. I've never played this course at a decent pace. Today was no different. After the fourth hole, we waited on every tee box. Sometimes up to 20 minutes because the groups in front of us were starting to pile up. There was no ranger. So nobody was trying to push slow groups. How can you not have a ranger on a weekend? This will be the last time I play here unless I start to hear that the pace of play has improved. It's been this bad since the 1990's and I'm baffled as to why I keep going back. The course is ok. Pretty good shape, pretty fun, pretty fair. But if you don't want a 6 hour round, don't play here.
Great MUNY Course, Close to NJ
Wallkill, is a course that you can use all of your clubs, that makes you think about the next shot. I find that on many holes, a driver is not necessary, and that you can use fairway metals to irons to set up the next/approach shot. Also a couple of the holes, 8 and 9 you need to place the drive on the correct side of the Fairway or the ball will run away off of the course. Greens are always in good shape, slow but in great shape and they do have contours. Staff is great, and a make sure at the end of the round go into the club house and enjoy a cold beverage.
Good course
This is a very nice course in a very nice area. I played here because it was the closest 18 hole course to where I was.
The course had just opened for the season few days earlier and was still in really good shape. There were some soggy areas, but that should dry up as the weather stays nice here. The tees, fairways and greens were all in good shape. Greens were a little slow though. I don't know if this is how they usually are or if its just because of the weather/season.
Pace of play was ok. I was in a foursome and we kept running into and getting held up by a threesome in front of us. The wait was never more than 2-3 minutes until we hit a par 3 (i think #15) when we just skipped the hole and played on because they were just teeing off when we got to the hole.
Only complaint about the layout was that too many holes played the same way. Lots of doglegs that required iron layup shots off the tee.
Overall though, i really enjoyed the course and would definitely play here again.
Good course - recommend
I've played this course many times because it's usually empty and I can finish a round fairly quickly. Greens play a little slow but the overall condition of the course is good and they even have a driving range where you can hit off grass.
downhill fast
called to make t time. asked if greens were punched. they said greens were good. went to pro shop to check in. he said greens were good. finally went to starter and he tells us its cart path only. no reason for cart path only!!!! very dry and never seeded. as for the greens, there is no grass. just paint. dont blame weather when i just played course nearby and that was fine. this used to be a must play. NOT ANYMORE!!! we wont be back
Great golf course...long and challenging.
Felt like I was playing in the LPGA...lol. Great course, long, challenging and beautiful surroundings. Wallkill is a public course and they have a great special everyday after 2p.m. $25 with court...can't beat the price.
Cute Little Course
Played this course on a whim. Tucked in the hills near Middletown the fairways are surrounded by forest, no houses. Paired up withsome guys from Bergen County, nice guys. Back to the course. From the white tees it is 6112 yards on the card, but it played a lot shorter when I played. The fairways while green were rock hard. The ball rolled forever. The greens and in front of greens were also hard. I quickly learnd to use one less club and let the ball bounce on. The greens putted true but were slow. Alot of blind tee shots and doglegs.
