Tee time
Really good round, not sure why reviews were so harsh. Not an easy course. If you only play public maybe this is on the pricey side and thus some of the reviews.
Country Club experience
great course, fun layout, beautiful rolling hills and landscaping
Beautiful Pete Dye Course
I was looking around for 18 holes at public courses on relatively short notice over the 4th of July weekend. Found very few options, realize in retrospect that the greens fees at Pound Ridge probably help increase availability. That said, this is an absolutely gorgeous course, on par with Pelican Hill in CA in terms of layout and maintenance. Flawless greens, nice walk through terrain that makes maximum use of New England stones. Highly recommended. I did not access any off-course amenities, so not rated.
Great course, best public course in Westchester…with a few tweaks needed
Loved almost everything about the course and set up. It’s in great shape, it’s well maintained, the holes are gorgeous and it’s a genuine challenge.
However, there were a few spots I thought that were set up in a silly way, specifically where trees just off the tee box (20-30 yards out) needed to be cut back. They were blatantly messing with the tee shot in a way that’s not necessary. In fact, on the 17th hole from the Pound tees, we hit off a draw lie (tee box not flat) and had a spruce/pine tree over grown so you were forced to aim left with a draw lie on a 450 yard par 4. Similarly, a par three on the front had overgrown branches blocking some of the view on our tee shots.
Otherwise, loved the course and experience. Will definitely be back.
Fantastic Golf Course
Beautiful layout, wonderfully manicured, pace of play was great, everything was spectacular!!
Dye delivers
Had an amazing day exploring Pound Ridge, unfortunately it was cart path only which definitely made it less enjoyable. Staff was nice one negative was starter teamed my two some up with two singles which is ok, but let a twosome out just in front of us. If you split the singles up we wouldn’t have been holding up the foursome behind us. Pace was slow due to Cart Path only. The twosome finished 18 when we were 9n 16 green.
Consistently experience a mix of + and - emotions about the course, staff and how much I paid.
I've played PR roughly 10 times over 8 years. The setting is very nice, and 13-14 holes also. The rest of the holes are quirky but decent enough. A course where you feel many customers are wealthy enough to not care about value (sometimes semi guarded locals), finance bros chirping about $500 greenies, don't play enough to have/know better alternatives and/or corporate money generally up from the city. It may be a player's course but it's not a player's facility. The range is limited flight balls off mats (range grass tees have never been open when I've played and too small to be open consistently) and they curtail use of it (ironic given LF balls but I'm sure this is partially bc of customers arriving desperate to find something before a round lol but also trying to extract a decent amount of value for what they're paying or the facility doesn't have enough balls or staff to collect them on a busy weekend). The chipping area is very nice and 1 putting green good but they are all for limited practice to build feel before a round not for general practice. During rounds I've been paired w singles that have ranged from very pleasant locals to a guy that lit up a pipe (not tobacco) on the third hole. I wasn't confident enough to complain to the staff about him because they I didn't feel they would have done anything about it because it's hard not to have an encounter where you're not rebutted by the staff instructing you on a rule. The staff is there to instruct you on the rules and get tipped. For what you pay, you expect a lot and not sure you get it.
Must play once a year for sure
Challenging blind spot shots long carries from the back tees. Must play once a year even for the money. I was able to score a hot deal and use a 20% off to make it $95 a player instead of the $144. But it is worth playing get there early and then you can use the unlimited range, chipping, and putting green
