Best of 2016: Top 20 golf courses in New York

From upstate and western New York to the Big Apple, golfers were busy rating golf courses all over the Empire State in 2016. This is a destination that has become well known for its legendary municipal golf, thanks to Bethpage State Park and more recently Trump Golf Links Ferry Point in the Bronx. And while prestigious privates are mostly off limits to the legions of New Yorkers, there are some great semi-private and resort courses that have earned strong ratings in 2016.

To compile our state lists, we used a similar method to that of our our national Top 50 ranking. A course's score is based on their overall (50%) rating and subcategory average (50%). Reviews are weighted based on how prolific that reviewer is on Golf Advisor, and a course receives a bump in their rating if their score is better than that reviewer's average score.

There has to be a mistake in this list, bethpage black is one of the best in the world let alone in New York State, the Bethpage Red is also a "must Play" . Whoever wrote this article forgot some other clubs such as Patriot Hills in Stony Point & Montauk Downs. Grossingers is closed & Their overall service sucked. The Concord in Kiamesha Lake was awesome but closed as well reopening 2019 part of the casino property. Heard it is supposed to be fantastic. Centennial in Carmel should be way higher on list .course conditions are always great & practice facility is second to none as far as public golf goes.Trump is good but grossly overpriced & The Vineyards shouldn't make the list. Sorry Brandon but I have played all over the world too & think you need to have your head checked posting Hiland Park as #1, shouldn't be on list either. You must have gotten an Ace there to even put it on this list or they paid you. Anyone looking for a great golf experience Turning Stone has a few courses that will satisfy your craving. Otherwise hit me straight fellas

It's possible this little ditty finds you scooping up the last bit of cranberry pie crumbs out of the tray. Thanksgiving may have passed but the effects of celebratory eating around the table, and also possibly social imbibing during all the various football games throughout the weekend, are sticking with us.
