Unmown fairway at Somers Pointe West! Photo submitted by Natmare on 07/05/2013
Challenging course, poor conditions
Somers has narrow, tree-lined fairways with a lot of dog legs. The course requires playing smart because you can't really cut the dog-legs due to the trees.
The staff was very friendly and the clubhouse / restaurant was very nice.
A majority of the tee boxes, fairways, and greens are in need of a lot of attention and maintenance.
Very Friendly Staff
This course was probably a little (more like a lot) too difficult for our foursome of beginner to moderate players, but the multiple staff members we interacted with were all very friendly. We walked the course, knowing it was going to be difficult, and it was, but at least we got a lot of exercise. The pace of play was perfect as we never waited to tee off and the group behind us was always a good distance away. Some of the tee boxes and greens could've used a little maintenance but weren't terrible. We hit a few balls at the driving range before which is always a plus. With a little more experience and a cart, I would definitely recommend this course. All of the holes have a unique feel to them, and it's definitely worth playing!
Tough course but not in great shape
Somers is a challenging course. It is a narrow, tree-lined fairways with more than usual dog-leg holes that requires smart club choices. The greens are very tricky as well. The staff are extremely friendly and the clubhouse / restaurant are very nice. Will definitely come back and would recommend.
The course wasn't in great shape. A majority of greens and fairways had patches of either dead or diseased spots.
Greens were worst I’ve ever seen
Comically bad greens. Layout is a dogleg every hole and can’t cut most of them due to trees. People were friendly but the condition of some of the greens on the first 9 holes are horrible.
Course has great features
First time playing this course, Will play there again
The Teebox fairway and greens need renovation And tender loving care
Outstanding staff
My wife and I played and we actually walked the first night
it was an enjoyable and great experience
Poor conditions on course, unique layout
Really poor conditions. Tee boxes were chewed, no green in sight. Fairways equally bad. Just not a good course. The staff was cool, and appears the front of house is ok. But not worth it, the course flat out was horrible.
No cart with refreshments
They did not let us take our cooler and there was no one on the course with a cart to provide any refreshments or beverages. Will not go back also because its unnecessarily really tough. Narrow with slanting fairways makes it very hard for average golfers.
Holy narrow and burnt greens.
This course is only a half a mile away from my house. We figured we would give it a go. I paid for a three some, but the management decided to stick us with a fourth. Luckily, the guy was extremely cool and we ended up making a friend. The course is very narrow. I just got back into golf, so I’m rusty to say the least. I went through 20 Callaway balls today. I’m not good at all. But I didn’t mind that so much. But what I did mind was the fact that the greens were burnt at almost every hole. It’s not maintained that well. I played it, but I don’t think we’ll go back.
Tough course but fun to play
This is very tough and special course that i keep coming back many times.
I love the layout, lotus, the view. But i wish they can take more care on the tee boxes. They are really bad.
You are very good at everything except for the terrible tee box conditions.
Somers National
Was excited to get a Sat tee time and had heard good things about the course. Very tight and hilly which makes it challenging. Greens need better upkeep and they were often burnt with lots of divots that didn’t get fixed. Starter was very helpful and friendly but the gentlemen who was there when you dropped off your bags wasn’t very friendly unless you asked him questions. Despite this, decent value for Westchester weekend golf.
Cute course. Greens and tee boxes in terrible condition
Cute course. Pace of play good and everyone is super nice! Greens are beat to death which dirt and brown patches and tee boxes are mostly dirt. If they could fix that it would be a better course. Nice time though
Challenging g course, mostly narrow fairways; greens and bunkers in good condition; , tee box’s need lots of work.0
Bad condition
Terrible maintenance of tee boxes and greens. Pace of play was terrible took over 4.5 hours and we played through 2 groups. I’ve played here for many years and the course is in the worst condition I’ve ever see it. Likely will not play again anytime soon
