Good Course - May 2024
Saw a lot of hate for this course in the past, maybe even some recent - had nothing short of a really great round here. The course was in good condition, some patches here and there but nothing more than 1 or 2 through the whole 18 that I could remember, greens ran true and were actually pretty tricky and well designed. Staff was super nice both at the check in and and the bar, the course itself is a fun design with some really unique and difficult holes mixed in. I played for like $30 with a hot deal and used a tee time credit to knock it down even more so it was well worth the price, would be a tough walk but had some cool views. Would recommend going now before it starts getting warmer and harder to maintain in the heat cause it was great!
nice course layout
Not sure why it only has a 3 star rating. The pace of play was good and the course was in great shape. I love the variety of the holes and the dog legs (maybe that's why I like it so much). Staff was very friendly and accommodating, even met Stella, the new puppy geese chaser. Will definitely endure the hour ride and play there again.
We appreciate this wonderful review and rating. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your round and our course layout. We hope to welcome you back here again soon!
Pace of play is always an issue
I have been playing this course for years. It’s rare when there isn’t any pace of play issues. The course is definitely in much better shape than previously. The new owners seem to be doing a good job.
Yesterday my dad and I were waiting almost 15 minutes per hole for this group of 4 old ladies to play in front of us. We then ran into another group of 3 who were playing very slow. My dad and I aren’t fast golfers but this course needs to adjust their 10 minute spread between tee times if their clients cannot keep up with pace of play. I’d rather go play other courses in the area that aren’t as nice if it means keeping a consistent and decent pace of play. It took almost a for the foursome in front of us to play hole 2 & 3. We skipped hole 4 to go to hole 5 just so we could get ahead of them.
Overpriced compared to other courses in the area
This is one of the most expensive courses in this area. For the price you will be better off playing any other course. The course was layout was flipped (hole 1 became 10 vice versa), there were no pictures of the hole layout at any hole, scorecards did not have hole layouts. For a lot of the course if you have never played before you are flying blind. You can pay $20 less and have much better amenities at any other course in the area.
Don't waste your money
Terrible, frustrating course with horrible conditions. Some of the staff are friendly, but some are downright rude. At the turn, I got an ice-cold hot dog.
Hard, but fair test of golf
Somers National is a beautiful track that is not for the less than intermediate golfer. This course requires smart shots off of tees. If you cannot hit fairway consistently, this course can be punishing. The rough is deep, and eats up golf balls. The greens rolled exceptionally, meaning fast, but not unfairly.
While difficult, this is a really good test of golf for good golfers. Looking forward to my next round.
Fall golf
We have played a few courses this past few weeks here in NY CT, and the fallen leaves all over the fairway and even the greens have been a major issue. Somers has done an amazing job keeping the leave situation cleaned up. Played on Nov 4th and the fairways and greens were amazingly clean. I brought an extra box of balls expecting to lose a bunch and ended up losing a total of three that were sliced in the woods. If you are looking to play during the fall, and you are frustrated with the lack of grounds keeping and leaf blowing...somers is a great option.
Thank you for your kind review! We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your recent visit to our course. We strive to maintain our grounds so players can have an enjoyable time. We hope to see you again soon!
Hot deal is not good deal from their staff.
They were somehow challenging.
They had nice view.
But their staff was no good to Hot deal's user.
Bring straight clubs
Wonderful course, especially for fall golf! Tight fairways with some scoring opportunity holes throughout. Challenging the whole way, but not over challenging. Extremely fun course with beautiful views down the fairways.
