Nothing Special
There is a lack of care from the staff from the minute you walk in the door. No carts were available yet they front desk kept giving out cart keys and no one outside monitoring the situation. The Ranger sat in his cart at hole 1 and smoked cigars my entire round. Course I was in pretty decent shape. More elevation than expected. It was a pretty hot day and the cart girl or clubhouse didn’t have any water available. Coolers in the course were empty. It took 5.5 hours to play a round because no one monitors the pace. For the price, go play golf somewhere else.
Improving
Major improvements all around the course. The tee boxes are in good shape, fairways nicer than they’ve been and the rough is grown in taller than I’ve ever seen it at this course. Greens rolled slow but true. Best condition I’ve seen the course in, in a long time. Have played this track many times, it’s the best on the island! I Still feel they charge too much for a muni, if they upgraded the carts + cart paths maybe the price wouldn’t sting as bad.
RANGERS NEEDED
The Pace of play was horrible, a 5 hour round. There was a 3 hole opening between the group in front of us and them. Where are the Rangers???
Course is in very good condition>
0 stars if I could. No logic behind booking their times
Teed off at 515 AM thinking let me get a quick 18 in. Flew through the front 9, nobody in front of me, one group 2 holes behind me. Great pace. Get to hole 10, there’s a group waiting to tee off, a group in the middle of the fairway and a group on the green. I was confused so I called the pro shop and they said they let people book 9 holes going off the back every 9 minutes until 7am. I never heard of such a thing. Figured it would probably take 3-3.5 hours to finish that back 9 with the amount of people I saw solely on hole 10, so I asked for a refund for just 9 holes because I simply didn’t have the time. The kid at the pro shop said they couldn’t refund me and that I basically should’ve known this was their policy. $80 down the drain.
Slow play and distractions
I teed off at 2 o’clock on the first tee by the second hole. It was backed up and slow while playing number two hole there was a couple of people with their kids who are playing in the sand trap. Using the rake and making sand Piles I advise him that was dangerous and that the kids who were about five could be hurt. While playing hall four another group onto hit towards the kids in the left side trap and yelled fore . So they were there at least 20 minutes with no intervention from an ambassador. on the next few holes, it was a jogger jogging around the courts. I saw him at least three times on the front line again no intervention from an ambassador. These distractions are annoying especially when spending $70 to golf in the afternoon. The course isn’t pretty good shape. There was also a lot of garbage along the edge of the course adjoining the Greenbelt golfers should be made aware that they should not be littering on the course.
Greens and fairways in great condition. Teed off a little past our time, pace was not too bad a little more than 5 hours which is reasonable for Staten Island.
Average course…
The course was in good condition. The only problem… the ranger could have been more proactive in speeding up the pace. Some how the group in front of me became a 5some, and 1 guy was riding the car standing on the back while the other 2 others were inside the car. This slow things down a lot.
A 20 minute, 6 person party on the second green!!!
Do I need say more??!!!
If you live on Staten Island, then your choices are very limited. Three courses now run by a new company, which, yes, did work on the courses, but made sure they gouged the public , during and after!
This day, called the Clubhouse to have someone come out and take care of the situation, lo and behold, you are diverted to an off shore call center. Asked to speak to actual clubhouse, and after two attempts was able to get through.
When he finally did arrive, the course marshal sat silently in his cart while we argued with the six-some!!
By the way, if you like people in T-shirts playing on the course with you, this is your place!!!
Complete joke!! Check out their mid week prices.
5-1/2 hour round
Fast round
I was there at 5:30 am had a 5:45 tee time. The 4some ahead of me let me play through and finished in less then 4 hrs
