Do not play this course
Course is a joke, staff is a joke, pace of play... yup a joke. Staff are uninformed teens obviously wanting nothing more than to be elsewhere. On the 11th green the name Carl is burnt into the green... no kidding. It took 4.5 hours for us to play 12 holes before we left. Terrible place to play go else where.
Latourette Still an Old Favorite
Was good to come back to a course I played when I was younger. Still a favorite whether they start you on the new front or the old front. Certainly worth the trip to the island.
No signs for any hole
the course was in good shape though. fairways cut nice and greens smooth and true
Was a little crazy to see no signs for each hole
hot dogs are good. There is a practice range on site which makes it nice to warmup
La Tourette Golf Course
Not the prettiest of courses in terms of aesthetics but I really liked the layout, challenging and extremely fair to the mid range handicap played a little less then 6,400 yards from the middle tees and I didn't lose a single ball. Despite cool and wet weather conditions, the greens putted very true and were good speed. I was very surprised at how much I liked the course.
READ THIS BEFORE YOU PLAY HERE!!!!!
Very expensive for a course in such bad shape with the slowest play on the island. Management does not let anyone tee off on the back nine to keep play moving no matter how many people are on the first tee. Be careful when you book online because they over book and don't account for high school matches. They will make you wait over an hour for the schools to finish because they will not send you off the back. A good course will always make sure there is a good pace of play, Latourette is not one of them. I have had a problem with the pace of play every time I'm on this course and could have been avoided by going off the empty back 9. Management is awful to deal with. They could careless about you they only care about the money they make which is why they book tee times for every 7 minutes and charge outrageous prices for golfing and range balls. This would be a great course if it was run better.
Not worth the money
The green is in bad condition , no sand in sand traps.
Full price for aerated greens
Charging full price for aerated greens is a bit lame. Also, if you book on golf now, you are allowed to walk the course but you will still pay for the cart.
Great course in the heart of Staten Island
This place was really fantastic!!!! For the price. ...it can't be beat! Wildlife everywhere....Beautiful foliage. ...greens were being aerated. ...but plenty of sand make the greens actually puttable. Surpassed all expectations. ...maybe the only reason to set foot on Staten Island!!!!
Great potential
Great layout and overall great course just its a free for all at the first tee theres no need to make a tee time because u will just be sent down to the tee and wait in line to go.. They need more rangers moveing play along theres toooooo many 20plus handicappers hitting from the back tees which causes this course to have a 5-6 hour round on weekends
Course could use some work.
Tee boxes, were used and abused with weeds, fairways beaten and dried out with dirt patching, greens were the best asset. $75 was way too much, in the condition that it's currently in, it's only worth 30-45 bucks. Not to mention the slow pace. Overall needs a revamp of everything.
Good Golf
Overall my experience was good. i will play there again and would reccomend the course to other players
Pace of play
Just wish people would play appropriate tee boxes. Frustrating to watch groups in front playing back tees . Booked tee time online but didnt get out till half hour later than time
Lucky Saturday
We play at La Tourette regularly, and normally that means slow foursomes and 5+ hours of a weekend on the course. However, this time we were lucky and got on at 3pm and the course was wide open.
Course is rather wide open and relatively flat with few water hazards. Greens and fairways were in decent shape, and was quite a good value through Golfnow.
beautifully restored.
I hadn't played here for decades, but heard the course was very much improved & I wasn't
disappointed. Also the pace of play was remarkably
good.
Enjoyable round
Had a very early tee time. 5:37 am. Thought I would be alone... The place was very busy. Even with that, the pace was good. My foursome finished in 4 hours flat. I did feel bad for the twosome behind us as they had to wait a bit. Offered to let them through but it was all foursomes ahead so the opted to just wait. Course was in great shape despite the weather we have had. Greens were fast. Fairways were excellent and the rough was just thick enough to be challenging but not impossible. I will definitely return!
In good shape
The course is in good shape ! But the pace of play at 6 am was a little slow. A fivesome of women played the entire round without a ranger ever breaking them up.
Horrible experience
I am a Fla resident up in NY for a wedding. Thought I would get in a round of golf with my buddy at a course where I volunteered working at and my friend still works there.
He inquired about how we could play together since he is entitled to a discounted tee time for his volunteering. He was told I could book a tee time , which I did on golf now @ 6:52 am, and he would come up with me and be paired up with me. Not only did they give his tee time to a walk up earlier, they did nothing to satisfy the mistake. People who volunteer
Do not have any rights anymore they are treated lower than dirt. The person in charge, who is a young man!!! Has no managing skills at all. He is a puppet there just to make money. I wouldn't play there if it were the last course on earth. We where also told they were running out of golf carts at 6:30 am, and told we couldn't get a tee time at 6:40 to come back in 10 min. When we returned and tried to sign up for our 6:52 tee time it was 7:05. When I told the gentleman behind the counter it was past our registered tee time @ 6:52 we we're told they were running late. RUNNING LATE AT 6:45 am on Friday morning. Come on they have no consideration for people anymore because the course is crowded and they will fill the slot with the next golfer. The place is a joke . Thank god I'm in Florida........
A hidden classic
Fairways were in good shape; the greens were fair and uniform in speed. There isn't a lot of water on the course so you probably won't lose too many, but there are plenty of woodsy areas to gobble up balls. The course is fairly hilly, there are several blind, but because of the dry conditions of the week, the ball seemed to roll a lot and some of the longer holes played fairly short. Overall, however, the layout is a rare treat and quite a surprise considering it is a NYC public course.
