Good course for letting it rip off the tee.
The fairways are wide with no dog legs where you don't have a decent angle in for your approach. Par threes are very short. Fun layout. Had a few good undulating greens.
The only downfall was the pace of play which was horrid. And the thing that made it worse was the fact that there were no rangers to push the slow groups along. We had to pile our entire foursome on my cart to skip the slow group ahead of us. (Gave myself a par. Ha.) Pretty bad from that standpoint.
If you can get on and avoid the slow pace of play, it's an extremely fun and casua course.
Fun layout
Course is in great shape. Greens rolling true and fast. Fairways and tee boxes clean and lush.
Pace of play can be better but thats most courses.
Just one of those long rounds
My earlier review I already said this place is hit or miss. Learning the game on this course I played here in all different situations whether enjoyable to as bad as self-inflicting pain. Today was one of those days where the course was overbooked and the front 9 took 3 hours to finish. Weekends are like this but this is a Wednesday afternoon. With their "Players Club", members could pretty much walk on whenever they please despite people having tee times. Never have I seen 4 different foursomes trying to play a hole simultaneously. (2 foursomes waiting on the tee box, another foursome in the fairway, and the last foursome putting on the green. This is the first time I played La Tourette this year so this overbooking during the week was new to me. At least now I know how people are getting treated, I'm not coming back here for a while.
Best kept Secret
First time playing La Tourette. I heard good things about it but never consider driving out to Staten Island. After playing it the course, believe me it's well worth the trip. The course is wide open and yet still has long, challenging holes. The place is well manicured and the pace of play is Awesome. Staten Island (LaTourette) will definitely be seeing much more of me.
Great course conditions
I had a nice round at Latourette. The staff was very nice and helpful and I was paired up with 3 very friendly golfers. The course was in great shape and so were the greens.
Confused
I'm a faithful Golf Now customer and I usually book 95% of my playing time through this web site, so when I'm done purchasing my course time it basically explains my purchase, it usually mentions the course, the time, holes & cart included, now when mention to me that the cart is included in my reservation. Now, on this particular day after registering at the pro shop I received my keys and off I went to the !st hole thinking things are going to be great today the weather was fine and I have not played here in a while so I was very eager to play, but, when I reached the send-off area the person said I have to share a cart with another single player that had his own cart. I immediately refused, I explained to this individual that within my receipt says Cart included, he claims I only paid for a half cart? So he suggested that if I did not like this rule take your receipt to the pro shop and get your money back (RUDE). I could not understand cause on the way to him I saw close to 20 carts parked. Anyhow,, I said fine I will do that, I asked for my money back, I explained the situation to the person at the pro shop and finally contacted that person and decided to let us go with our own carts. I didn't care to much about the situation but I had a great time thereafter, the course was in the greatest shape I have ever seen it, the fairways were magnificently manicured and the greens well, you must play this course again & again, what ever they did they did it right......
Course is in very good shape.
Course is in very good shape and late spring is the best time to play this course, before the outings tear it up.
Okay
Prices very good for a round of golf on SI. Course is a challenge. I expected more of the place from what I had heard. However, Bathroom condition at noon was as if not cleaned in days.
Beauiful weather but too long to finish all courses.
Everything seemed great for playing. Too many people were playing. In this reason, I was playing 6 hours to finish whole round.
spacious
Course is in good condition but I found it odd that once booking on golf now, LaTourette golf course refused to provide me with their senior rate.
The course is well groomed and beautiful
As a senior citizen and in a fixed income I was a little dissatisfied with the price. I booked the tee time on golf now, combine that fee with the course fee and it's a little pricy.
Other courses ofer senior rates sometimes as low as $26
LaTourette
Fairways were cut yesterday and Clumps of Grass Clippings were all over the fairways. Greens were in great shape except for the fact that the greens could have been cut Shorter or Rolled flatter,Tee Boxes were a Horror !!! On many Tee Boxes we had to Tee off outside the Designated Box. Typical 5/12 hour Round ...
Only needs sand in its bunkers
Good layout. Lots of elevation changes. No sand in the bunkers. Only drawback to an otherwise good golf experience
One of the better NYC courses which doesn't say much
This course is where I learned the game. With the amount of rounds too many to count I say I know this course rather well. I played the course in pristine conditions to as bad as thinking what am I doing spending money here. Management has changed over the years and it really depends on who is working. You could either be served by someone who knows what they're doing or get treated like an alien due to someone with a lack of people skills. Overall, this NYC course has one of the better layouts with wide fairways. If you're a big hitter and get off the tees well, you're most likely shooting a low score. Playing La Tourette is the classic example of Russian roulette. You just don't know what you're in for beforehand.
Slow play!
Have played there before and never had the wait on every tee box as we did today. There was a club of four foursomes two groups ahead of us and they were terribly slow. No one came around to move them along.
They also slid foursomes into play that had no reservations. A very long 5+ hour round.
Terrible staff, poorly managed
2nd time playing this course this year and I should've stayed away but the lure of low green fees pulled me back. The course is always running behind schedule, the staff are rude, and the manager is clueless. This course should be the gem of NYC muni courses but it is poorly managed. For instance, the first time I played here on 6/17, they had an outing which led to an hour backup for open golf. Yesterday they had another outing but only on the front nine, which forced everyone to pay the back nine twice. No one was told before they purchased the green fees.
Tee times
When you book a tee time you expect to play at that time, however this was not the case and I was told it was about a twenty minute delay . Ok no problem but the delay was actually 1 hour and when going back after twenty minutes a man in a blue shirt who I think was the manager got an attitude with myself and another patron who had an earlier tee time than myself. I thought it was your job to please the customer not have their tee time run late for 1 hour and then get an attitude with the patron because the course overbooked on a day that they had an outing and zero carts available for the patrons . To top it all off they let a foursome out ahead of us with 4 kids and a coach I believe they had a 430 tee time because they were walking. Well once we actually teed off we caught Up to them and were held up the entire round. Because of these delays the front 9 took 31/2 hours to play and I was unable to finish my round . At the least the management staff could have been more pleasant and given a discount for the inconvenience. Very disappointed with the staff and their inability to handle a bad situation and make it worse because if I was and hour late for my tee time it would be a big problem but this I guess their not too concerned with. Thank You
