Hot deal is totally worth it.
Got a great deal with golf now. I would recommend this course to anyone.
Nice Layout
This course have some blind spots offthe tee where you do not know where your hitting. Luckily we were grouped with a couple who plays the course alot. Some of the Pin placements were a bit challenging, where you can hit up on the green and the ball will roll off. Since this is the beginning of golf season the course seems it will be alot better once the weather breaks and the fairways get better.I definitely comeback in the summer to play the course again.
Great cource for county.
Great place. Clean fair pricing. Very impressed for parks dept. course.
Great value will be going back
GolfNow was a terrific resource, saved some money and played a fun round of golf. The only major downside was one of our 3 guys didn't make it so we lost the money by pre-paying, with no rain-check available. Otherwise was a nice day.
Majestic Mohansic
Some Pro AM is today at Mohansic (I played yesterday) the course was in magnificent shape. I've never seen the greens rolling the way they were yesterday and probably through the weekend. Course play was fantastic.
slowest round ever
No ranger encouraging a quicker pace of play. Waited on the 13th hole for a half hour! Insane. Left after that.
Beautiful area
Good course to play somewhat challenging for all golfers
Course condition
Well maintained, but challenging, hilly and narrow fairways, however didn't lose any balls. The course is playable, even for a duffer like me.
Great Course, Excellent Value
Mohansic is the best of Westchester's county operated courses. The course is challenging, but fair and across the layout you'll encounter just about every type of hole from a 600 yd par 5, a few short but challenging par 4s, lots of elevation changes and a lot of doglegs that force well shaped shots off the tee and on the approaches.
Course conditions are great considering the price point and amount of abuse the course probably takes. Bunkers used to be bad, but they were all renovated last fall (including some new ones) and are now great.
Course staff are always friendly and I always meet nice people if we get paired up on the first tee. Elevations changes on the course make for a great workout for walkers.
The course isn't crazy long but it plays longer than the raw yardage might suggest (6,558 Par 70 from the Blues). The shorter Par 4s (2, 8, 12, 15) are probably a fairway metal or long iron for long hitters and depending on the tee placement require a well shaped shot.
Greens provide a strong defense on many holes. On around half the holes keeping the ball below the pin is a must on approaches or you'll be left with a lightening fast downhill putt.
Only real bad thing I could say about this course is that the pace of play on weekends is too slow and little is done to get slow pokes to move it along, but that's no different than any other public course in the region... unfortunately.
Nice Course!
I'm local to this this course, so it's my "home base" if you will. I must say that the condition of the course is excellent in my opinion, considering the beating the course takes daily. It seems always crowded, but the pace of play is pretty good. It's an eclectic course... blind tee shots, wide fairways, narrow fairways, uphill, downhill, sidehill.... you name it, this course seems to have it. Holes #s 4 and 9 particularly seem to have my number. What I've really enjoyed about this course, however, is the people I've met. I often go out as a single player, and I've had the pleasure of spending the day with a wide variety of folks playing playing all levels of golf. To a person, they have been kind and great companions for the day. I've also found the staff to be gracious and accommodating. All in all, I've never had a bad day on Mohansic, regardless of score, and I'm looking forward to getting out there again soon!
Where's the next tee
When you're in the middle of renovation building and moving holes, you must have clear detour signs where you expect golfers to tee off next. Not to mention some of the tees did not even have a number/distances sign on the tee. And we're still looking for the 8th tee.
To make matters worse most of the water barrels were empty and the cart girl was no where to be found during our round from 1 to 6 pm.
Find Another Course
The course should be re-named 'Dogleg Alley.' 16 out of 18 hole are doglegs; some are so extreme they take you in a u-turn.
The fairways are TIGHT - maybe 20-30 yard across on average. This would be fine, but there's not a flat surface on the course. You should be rewarded for hitting a good shot; at Mohansic be prepared for a fairway lie with a 30 degree incline for your approach.
Everything above is the course design and there's nothing you can do about it. However, THE STAFF WAS TERRIBLE. Rudely collecting my money, snarky attitude about everything, and miffed I'd have the audacity to ask where I'm supposed to tee off.
The WORST part was they failed to inform my group that there was a temporary 7th hole set up THAT SHOULD BE PLAYED AFTER THE 3RD HOLE! How were we supposed to know that! Just a solitary sign that states TEMPORARY 7th TEEBOX. The group ahead of us kindly explained the details. So we finish putting on the '7th green' and the group behind us cuts IN FRONT OF US thinking we're skipping around holes. We go over and explain the situation - just like the group in front of us did - but they don't believe me and tee off anyway. After a heated argument, we decided it wasn't worth it and simply cut in-front of them when they doubled back to play the temporary 7th hole.
The whole point is this SHOULD AND MUST BE EXPLAINED BEFORE STARTING THE ROUND! There are three people 'working' behind one register. Mohansic staff - YOU CAN BE RUDE ON A RANGER CART TOO!! Send someone out to patrol and manage play!
I'm a Westchester Resident and its a shame this whole situation occurred. I will NEVER play this course again.
Good course
The course looks better compare from last year, specially the green is well maintained.
fun all around course
Probably my favorite overall Westchester course. Good if you like hitting the driver without having to play the "smart shot" all the time off the tee...you can pretty much let the big dog eat. Worth the 45 min drive from NYC.
best out of all public courses
All around, above average on everything, course is in great shape, people are very helpful
Where's the line?
Ever play where's waldo? It's easier than finding the line for your tee shot on this course. I'm sure a few rounds would lead to you having it figured out, but for a first timer (who likely won't return), it was as annoying as getting a wet willy.
The cons:
1) Numerous blind tee-shots. CHECK
2) Strange rough patches and hard as bring dirt patches where you though the line was? CHECK
3) A course that is more annoying than difficult. CHECK
The pros
1) Fairways and Greens are well kept and challenging.
2) Staff was awesome.
3) Bunkers are some of the best you will see at this price range.
4) Beautiful surroundings.
Good value
The course is in better shape than most public courses in the sera. The club has excellent amenities, carts with gps, ball cleaners on every hole, interesting course with an eclectic mix of holes offering some birdie chances and some challenging holes
My Round @ Mohansic!
For a public course, Mohansic is in great, great shape. It is challenging, but fun. And the 9th hole remains, the one I can never par! By the way , the golf pro - Skip, is the best in the business! He is awesome!
Wicked Fast Greens
Course overall was in nice shape...however, greens were crazy fast and could not hold the ball on the slope. Uphill puts rolled back farther than they were originally. Completely onfair greens conditions on many holes.
Solid course for the money.
Local pub. Have played many times and continue to return for the great value. Staff is always very nice and accommodating.
