Quail Creek Golf Course
About
Quail Creek Golf Club is tied for being the most difficult public course in the St. Louis area. Designed by Hale Irwin, the course is laid across rolling hills laced with meandering streams. The layout requires accuracy with narrow fairways and hard-to-read greens. Water hazards come into play frequently as do trees and bunkers. It is a formidable test for any skill level. Most of the holes have a risk-reward element, making the course more accessible by placing an emphasis on strategy over strength. One of the most memorable holes is the par-5 ninth. It will favor golfers who successfully cut the corner, making it possible to reach the green in two. This tricky hole demands accurate mid-iron play. Quail Creek Golf Club finishes with an interesting par 4 that has water along the left side of both the fairway and green.

Nice greens
The greens have been maintained well. Hot summers in prior years damaged the greens by this time of year. Overall the course conditions were better than in prior years in August. I enjoyed my round and will continue to play there.
Quail Creek was the top public course around 1990.
Quail Creek was the top public course around 1990. The layout is fantastic. Like many public courses, the greens fees are very attractive, but this doesn't allow them to invest in their course. The greens are watered and green. The rest of the course was very dry.
This was the first time I played the course in more than 25 years.
Either way, for $25 it was a fair price for the course.
Course conditions
Having played this course last year an again this year I think the conditions have improved considerably . The greens are in far better condition this year over last year at this time of year.
CEO
Nice layout, sand bunker on 10 needs attention but pretty nice otherwise.
We like this course, it has been a good value, and a go-to course for us as a group. It has a challenging layout - not usually over crowded - great staff - - I am not sure what is happening but they are only watering their greens. Greens are in good shape - tee box and fairways are hard as rock - we probably won't play it again until it starts raining, or I call, they say that they are watering the course
Not bad, but needs work
In Quail Creek defence, it was July when we played but the greens we're not well maintained and fairways dry.
One lake was disgusting because it was full of dead fish floating everywhere.
Course not really challenging but still okay to play. Fairways were wide mainly, few tight one's.
Quality time
It was nice course not in the best condition but played well
Poor management
The course was is absolute horrible shape..I've played it more than 10 tines and the pace of play is marginal at BEST! The head pro there was a young kid and was absolute rude..teach him some customer service plzzz
The course is looking better
The course looks better than it used to they are definitely bringing it back my only complaint was that the tee boxes were so hard that you needed a hammer to put your tee in.
Couldn't play. Course wouldn't refund.
A family emergency caused me to be unable to play. Because it was a "hot deal" and I pre-paid, the course refused to refund my greens fee and refused to provide me a credit to be used at another time.
I won't play there anymore. They could have been more understanding and accommodating.
One of THE best layouts you'll find in a public course
Greens in good shape. Fairways n tees typical for late July. Current management working hard to bring it back with limited resources. Keep up the good work.
What Happened
As someone with a very intimate knowledge of this course, to say it has gone down hill is an understatement. 1) use your sprinklers...its a sitepro system and i know of its capabilities. 2) buy some sand, they are called SAND traps for a reason. 3) pre emergent is a beautiful thing when applied in spring. 4) water the greens when its hot, keeps those nasty hot spots off of them and doesnt turn the putting surface into a racetrack. 5) mulch is cheap, try spreading some and adding some aesthetics. 6) the folks in the pro shop could act like they like their job and actually show some enthusiasm! Course used to compete with tapawingo. Now closer to tower tee!
Decent Place
I went here on whim. They had a good hot now deal, and I had a Friday off and decided to come up and play. They course was not in the best shape as some of the fairways were absolute mud holes from the spring rains. They had some tee box issues as well (the grass was very spotty). The greens were decent and held the ball well. I played with 1 other guy, he was nice and we had a good time but the course overall could use a little TLC. I would come back but only because I got such a cheap rate with a cart. You cant hardly beat it for the price.
Great Value!
We play this course several times throughout each year. The layout is interesting and fun, not overly challenging. The course is in good condition for this time of the year, although there are many dry areas on the course which is puzzling for the amount of rain the area has received. All in all a good value for the St. Louis area!
Great Round
It is amazing the shape this course is in for just being affected by the flood. The staff was friendly and even called the owner to see what it would cost me to play another 9 after I played 18. Some greens and tee boxes were a little beat up but understandable after the flood. I will go back and it was worth the money.
The t boxes were in terrible shape , also many of the fairways hardly had any grass on them. sometimes hitting on dirt. this course has gone downhill badly. I will not return
Needs help
I have always liked this layout, but this course needs help. The fairways are average at best, lots of thin/ tight spots. Greens rolled surprisingly well and that was the highlight. The bunkers were absolutely horrible......what sand was in them was tighly packed into a wet muddy, but firm mess. I realize they have had a fair amount of rain but it is obvious that the staff puts no work into the bunkers. A quick rake every morning would at least make them playable.
Quail...
Been playing Quail for years. Good layout. Convenient for me and decent deals. This last round was brutal. Extremely slow play. No Marshals on a holiday. Somehow they allowed a five some two groups in front of us. By the time we got to where we could see, the group of 5 was walking off of 16 green and the next group in front of them was putting the flag in on 18. That's a par 5 and par 4(18) that were completely open. Not a rep of the course anywhere to be found. I can understand slow play on Memmorial Day, but a five some?? 5 1/2 hour round... Somehow there are pretty much no yardage markers left throughout the course. Full disclosure, this is a pet peeve of mine. All we are asking for is a painted piece of cement.
Needless to say, terribly disappointed and will not pay $39 and change to play there again.
