Sand traps
Course was enjoyable, except for the sand traps. Tough to get out of especially with the lack of sand. Most spots I was in was less than 1” with some underlying rocks and/or roots.
Aloha and thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear that maybe not all but most of your round was quite enjoyable. Hope you’ll give us another chance in the future. Mahalo.
Not bad
I was here for 10 days and love to play golf, so I bought the 5 round deal, which basically equates the 1 free round. The Royal is a decent track. Personally, I think the front is the nice 9 and features pretty much the only doglegs on the course. The back is most straight with elevation changes. With the exception of #17 there are no interesting Par 3’s. As mentioned, it’s a decent golf course and they keep it in good condition, although it is worth mentioning they didn’t change pins between days a few times, and this resulted in unsightly frayed holes around the edges. Greens were solid and rolled well despite being a bit on the thicker side. It’s an open track and the elements are the biggest challenge. I’d say it plays longer than the yardage. Staff was courteous and the range is fine. I’m glad I played it. There are some fabulous views in a few spots. Pricing is high for the experience and there’s zero dollar value at $235 a round. This is a $75 golf course anywhere other than Hawaii, and they also benefit from no local competition other than Kapalua.
Mahalo for playing and sharing your review. We appreciate you and look forward to seeing you again soon.
Greens were slow and shaggy. Still showed effects of recent aeration.
Aloha and Mahalo for giving us your feedback. Yes, we're just finished our spring aerification on both courses and the greens are rolling beautifully now. We will be sure to let our team know you enjoyed your experience with us. We hope to see you again soon!
Terrible
Greens were terrible, lots of sand on greens. Should have received a discount.
Aloha and thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback. We are thrilled to hear you had a positive experience here at Kaanapali golf courses. We will be sure to let our team know you enjoyed your round of golf with us. We hope to see you again soon. A Hui Hou (until we meet again)!

Not Resort Style Golf
I have played here whenever I've come to Maui, but I will not play it again. No food until 12:00. Lost their liquor license. No cart person. I called after hole 9 to see if I could get a half refund since it was such a terrible golf experience and the front-desk person was very rude (and they didn't refund me half - was definitely a longshot, so not docking them points for that).
It's expensive but doesn't provide the amenities one would expect from a Hawaiian golf experience. Although a bit more expensive, just go up the road to Kapalua. It's the type of golf experience you would expect on vacation.
Vacation Golf
Nothing better than playinf in Hawaii on a great course.

No Alcohol
Was shocked that I couldn’t enjoy a beer while playing.
Large tine punched Greens
Cancelled booking, I was not advised the the greens were punched and re opened the day we were supposed to play.
Staff was friendly and cancelled my time but did not get my refund from Golfpass.
Aloha,
I believe your booking was through "GolfNow" and therefore the confusion. Please contact me directly at kreul@kaanapaligolfcourses.com
I will need some more details about your reservation and will process your refund. Very sorry for the misunderstanding. Mahalo. GM.
Nothing but beer.
For some reason your course, and several others no longer allow anything other than beer on the golf course my wife rides along with me and she enjoys a cocktail or two. But with your new restrictions. She was very disappointed. You know the saying happy wife, happy life. Whatever the problem is, you guys should take care of it. People should be able to enjoy a cocktail or two while playing golf. Other than that course condition was excellent. Pace of play was great. We even played the King course. It had just been reopened after aeration. Still, it was a great wonderful course. The views are spectacular. Thank you.
Mahalo for the great rating. Please come again!
Location location...otherwise not worth it
Location location location.....smack in the middle of Kaanapali..... paid 113 for twilight and will not do it again. condition not better than most muni courses in California at 1/3 or the price. Kai course really does not have ocean view. For the price, only portapotty available on the course (unacceptable), no water stations. saw the food cart ONCE during the 18 holes... rather drive out to other courses to play
Happy to play this one again
Yesterday was the third time I have played this course and I will not hesitate to play it on my next visit to Kaanapali.
The course condition is excellent, although a little more sand in the bunkers would be great!
The greens are fast so be ready to have some longer than anticipated 2nd putts.
The two things I would suggest could be improved are: 1. Practice range is very limited and I just don’t like having to use mats and 2. There is a small and well hidden putting green that could be better signposted as it not seen until you are not n your way to the 1st tee.
Aloha friend. We will be sure to let our team know you enjoyed your round of golf with us. We hope to see you again soon. A Hui Hou (until we meet again)!
