Sea Trail Resort Villas

We arrived in plenty of time to warm up, and we paid for a bucket of balls. But the guys at the cart station didn't help us much, and when we drove over to the driving range, they said we weren't supposed to park at it (there were no signs). We had to move the cart, but then they told us that we were supposed to be at the hole, although we were still 20+ minutes to tee time. As a result, we didn't get warmed up. Also, after they rushed us to the first hole, it was all jammed up. If they had paced the starts corrected, we wouldn't have waited for the groups ahead at each hole. When we played this course before, we got much better treatment.

I had a great day to play. Even though it rained during the night the course was in great shape. The greens rolled nice and the course was in good condition. The layout is a challenging and would like to play the other two courses.

One of the standout features of Sea Trail is its stunning natural beauty. Surrounded by lush trees and picturesque landscapes, the course offers a serene and tranquil setting that's perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The course layout is thoughtful and engaging, with each hole presenting a unique and enjoyable challenge.

Throughout my round, I couldn't help but appreciate the attention to detail that the grounds keeping team had put into maintaining the course. Will definitely be back.

My wife and I played and the first thing we noticed was that the parking lot was not very full, like it normally has been on our many visits to play. The pro shop was almost bare, and the bar and restaurant apparently have been closed. The course was in the worst condition we have ever seen on any course that we have played. We play a lot of golf and have played this course numerous times. It looks like they don't have a greens keeper. They were borderline unplayable with tons of weeds and huge bare spots. I think we counted three greens that were reasonably acceptable. The bunkers had not been raked and the mowing was inconsistent. When my wife went inside at the turn to get something to drink she was directed by the pro shop attendant to a drink machine since there was no longer a bar or restaurant. She mentioned the poor playing conditions and he said he had heard that. Typically when a golf course has some playability issues due to maintenance, bad weather, etc, the pro shop will let you know before you tee off and maybe even offer a discount . All in all, this was sad to see as we have included this course in our rotation for many years.

OVER ALL CONDITION OF THE COURSE WAS GOOD GRASS CLIPPINGS EVERYWHERE IN THE ROUGH. TWO OF THE GREENS HAD SOME BAD SPOTS DUE TO THE WEATHER BUT ARE HEALING NICELY.

This was my first time playing this course. I had high hopes of as I have played many of the courses directly adjacent to it. I was very disappointed in the conditions the greens were horrendous, scorched earth, all over in the fairways in the rough on the Greens. Tee boxes unkempt. Pace of play was fine but we were the first group out so I’m unsure how the pace usually is. Played another course the next day for a few more dollars and got much more enjoyment for the money. We won’t be back on this track as there are many others nearby that outshine it. Not sure about the other two courses on the complex, but this one’s pro shop was lacking. Not very good amenities. First and last time at the Maples Course.

Considering this is a golf resort, these conditions were atrocious. Big burnout spots on the fairways, tee boxes that had been cut but were the length of light rough (particularly problematic on par threes, bump and inconsistent greens. With the deal, the price was not bad, but I wouldn’t pay more than about $35 to play here again. Hard to enjoy the Willard Byrd design when it isn’t well kept.

would not play this one again unless they did alot of work, seems they are not putting any money back into the course. the greens had large clumps of weeds/crab grass growing on them . staff was not friendly.

Traveling for work and wanted to get in a round. The Byrd course was a great choice. The staff was very friendly, i arrived early and was able to tee off once ready. it was 90 degrees so pace of play was great. I enjoyed the layout. Nice doglegs with well placed bunkers but enough room that errant shots still left opportunity to score. Greens in good shape and rolled well. Would play again.

The course was in great condition and the overall layout is amazing. I would recommend this course to everyone who wants to satisfied with their round of golf.

The course has a great layout but the greens need alot of work

I used to play the Jones regularly and thought it was one of the best area courses. What a disappointment to find the inconsistent bumpy greens and poorly maintained bunkers. Fairways and tee boxes were okay. The greens were also only about 70% their original size as the fringe has clearly been allowed to overtake the greens surfaces over the years.

I won’t be back unless the greens are redone. It’s a shame because the Jones is still a fun layout and could be a nice place to play.

I played both the Maples and Jones courses this week for the first time in nearly a decade. Jones was an easy course with minimal challenges. The greens were in very poor condition, though having gone through a heat wave it isn’t a wonder why.

Maples was in excellent shape all the way through, it is an enjoyable course with enough challenging features to keep you honest, while not overly difficult for the average golfer. We were the first group out and finished the course in 3.5 hours. It looked a lot more crowded on the early holes as we were leaving, so get out early.

The only complaint was the absence of a driving range (under construction at the time) and the lack of beverage/snack cart/surprisingly underwhelming amount of balls/products at the pro shop. The maples pro shop is a satellite from the main shop, which had significantly more

Great layout and a lot of fun. The greens were in a bit of rough shape but I’m not going to complain for the value and the heat we have had this week. Staff was very courteous.

I've played the Byrd course dozens of times during my visits over 22 years to Sunset Beach. It's a good course that was in good shape considering the heat. Most greens were playable but not great. Very disappointed there is not a driving range (due to construction to build a house on every conceivable inch of available space) and the chipping green was definitely not maintained. They don't tell you this when you book. The guys loading the bags were terrific but the gentleman inside could use some customer service training. We played in the mid-afternoon heat when nobody was on the course. I payed for 2 and had two under the age of 16 (who are free based on their policy) and he kept grilling me about their ages. Also didn't have many answers to questions except "I'm just an Indian around here". He was what he was. I'll play here again because it's convenient, but Sea Trail use to put such a high priority on customer service and customer satisfaction and that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. It's disappointing. I experienced wonderful customer service at both Panthers Run and Aberdeen in the same week.

Course was solid. Greens were a little slower than you would think. Some of the tee boxes had quite a bit of crab grass. Snack bar was very limited, no hot dogs?! Overall, not too bad. I would play here again.
