Shuttle to the 1st Tee
Despite the “major restoration,” the Maples Course fell short of expectations based on its claims. Although the new Bermuda greens are indeed a highlight and play beautifully, much of the course remains rough and underdeveloped. The fairways, touted as widened and enhanced, were largely dirt and lacked healthy turf. Tee boxes were also poorly maintained, suggesting that the course may require significantly more time to achieve the quality described in its marketing materials.
Highlights
The new greens delivered as promised, rolling smoothly and providing a premium putting surface.
The recently upgraded carts were comfortable and added a positive touch to the experience.
Reality vs. Claims
The “distinctive fairway cut” and “expanded natural areas” appear unfinished, with most fairways in barren shape and not up to restoration hype...basically you hit off dirt whether on or off the fairway.
Tee boxes were neglected, with visible wear that contradicted the advertised immaculate transformation. They almost seemed "forgotten," like let's just toss these tee markers out here.
While some elements show promise, overall course playability does not match the “remarkable transformation” promised—at least not yet.
Final Thoughts
And and and you have to take a shuttle from where you check in to where you play!
Maples may be on its way to improvement, but as of now, the playing conditions lag far behind the lofty claims. Golfers should temper expectations while the course continues to mature. The greens and carts make for a decent round, but most areas require significant further attention before the experience delivers on its marketing.
Great value for a beach course.
Course is in good condition. Was itold they are shutting down the Maples course for a few months to renovate the greens, bunkers, and cart paths. Cart paths could definitely use some help. Course will definitely punish you if you're off the fairway!
Group of 8
Group of 8 played Sea trail Maples on April 5th. Great Staff,Super friendly.
They have done a Great Job with the Course. Fairways are plush and Greans are in great shape role true, a couple have some very minor spots. Overall Great day on a Great course. Beautiful Views lots of wildlife Definitely recommend.
Yopu've Got Better Options
The greens were the worst I've played in a long time...fungus, bumpy, very little real grass.
a flat 4 footer was a bumpy ride. They need to offer a discount and tell patrons that the greens are rough.
Aweful
This course has a great layout and the staff was friendly. That is where the positives end. The tees were mostly dirt. The majority of the greens were mediocre at best. The cart paths are a disaster. Way overpriced for the condition. I would stay away from this course
Expensive for poor quality course.
Course is in bad condition, greens and the cart paths are the worst of all the courses in the area. Had to wait 30 mins at the turn because they overloaded the course. This course is barely worth 20 for 18…definitely not worth $60+.
Do not go here.
The tee boxes were bare. There were crabgrass tufts on the greens. Cart paths were cratered and very difficult to use. Fairways were ok and bunkers were good. It just needs a lot of TLC to get it back to playable conditions like it was about 5 years ago.
Played Jones - see explanation in review
Planned to play Maple but when checking in learned one hole was damaged from 2023 storm and unplayable. Also, was advised that while the layout was good, other holes have issues. Expressed concern with paying a full fee.
Staff remedied the issue by rebooking us to the Jones course. Also learned that the Byrd course was due to reopen after extensive upgrades.
We played the Jones course, mediocre at best. Several greens had dead areas.
These three courses will have full renovations in the next year or two. Clubhouse upgrades were incredible. Food amenities greatly improved from two years ago.
These courses will be something we plan to checkout the next time we are in the area.
Way overpriced
Greens were in terrible condition. Cart path was basically unusable. Lots of potential with the layout but everything from tee box to green was poor condition. I’d feel a little better if I didn’t pay $72 after tax but not the case.
Staff were very friendly.
Old unkept course, bad greens.
Weeds!
Most greens lost , course in bad shape!
Cart paths worn out, not keeping up all the pot holes.
Should close this one & rebuild everything.
maybe the other courses have been given ALL
the love?
Don’t waste your time or money
I know that they are redoing these courses however they should tell you that the back basically has No greens. Even the front greens were burnt and scarred. Some fairways were so soggy. You could not drive on them. I don’t recommend this place. Nor do I think I will be back. as a matter of fact, if I could get my money back from GolfNow I would.
