Byrd at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center

We were somewhat disappointed with this course after reading the good reviews. It started when we arrived and they had no record of our GolfNow tee time. The staff kept complaining and were disorganized enough that it took the extra hour we had arrived for practice to get things resolved. In addition to that, the driving range was closed for repairs. The course layout was good, and the fairways in OK shape. The greens were fuzzy and very slow. Most of the bunkers were decent, but surrounded by deep rough that just swallowed a ball. Finally, the carts were supplied with GPS that kept dinging and showing unwanted adds. With the new construction going on between the holes, there are more enjoyable courses to play in the area.

The weather was perfect and the Byrd course was in great shape. A good bit of clearing and construction going on around the course but did not affect the game. fairways, greens, and tee boxes fine.

There are much better courses in the area for the price. Greens and fringes had crabgrass all over them. No range currently. Would take my money elsewhere. Layout was interesting.

A+ experience

This is the 3rd time playing this course. I have enjoyed it each time. We come down from Pennsylvania to play in North Carolina, for a couple weeks, and we always make sure to play Willard Byrd.

They have not been getting much rain down here, but I have to say that the fairways were excellent, and the greens were really good also.

The other thing I wanna mention, is their overall customer service. Bob, who was in charge of the carts, showed terrific customer service. He was so nice. He made sure that our carts were ready to go, and also at the end of the round, even though he was chatting with someone, he was nice enough to come over to our car and take our cart instead of having us drive it over to the cart return . What a joy to talk to, this is different from some other places. (Sandpiper Bay, I am talking about you!).

Just to give you a quick example, I tipped the cart guy over at Sandpiper $10 when we finished, because we were next to the last ones in. I told him we would be right back with the carts, and I appreciate him sticking around to let us finish our round. We started at 4:02, and came back in at 8. (My son and I played a scramble to finish faster). As we were getting our trash out of the cart, he came out of nowhere, and said, “I need to get out of here. I don’t have time to wait around, and I need this cart.” Fine. I had the other cart sitting there also, but I hurried up and took it back to him, which was only a matter of about 30 seconds later. Very disappointing in that type of customer service, considering that there was no cart available when we were to start our round. I didn’t get upset about that.

Overall, this is a very good course, and for the money it is also excellent. I highly recommend this course.

Loved the course and layout. My only issue is we had to wait out a couple of rainstorms so the cart kept freaking out and telling us our pace of play was slow. However this is a minor annoyance and we absolutely had a great experience.

Very solid course. Did not play the back 9. The starter, the pro shop attendant and the cart attendant at the end were SUPER friendly. One guy at the beginning working the carts was kinda grumpy and rushed to get us out and we weren't ready. Our team time was 20 minutes later and normally I would like to get out early but we werent settled and even the starter was confused on why he did it. The course is in very good condition. Friendly off tee, greens I think would be super fast and nicer , but there was aeration going on. Sand was very good, decent design, we will be back again.

Beautiful place everything done right going back today

Course was in very good shape. Fairways excellent, tee box’s good, greens very good but I started at 8am and greens had a fairly heavy due on them but they rolled well and gradually got faster to a nice speed as they dried out. First time I played it since renovation and glad I did.

Decided last minute to stop here and rent a condo on 16th green of Byrd course. Played Byrd and Jones and both are very good. Will play Maples tomorrow but drove by and it looks good as well. This Sea Trail Resort is nice and the 3 courses are a bit less $ if you book on GolfNow. Having said that all courses walk up rate is priced in the $100 range (in March) overall I'd recommend this resort and golf courses with 👍👍.
