LEGENDS did not live up to its name...
50+ years veteran golfer; first trip to Myrtle Beach. Friends always raved about Legends as a must play. Booked a 1:56 pm, Saturday round using Golf Now app for a "Hot Deal!" Arrival found utter chaos with 40-50 golfers waiting to get a cart and get started. Got cart at 1:55 and headed to the first tee of the Heathland course. Course and facilities seemed very beat up to me. Everything was brown (I know it's supposed to be a links style course) but clubhouse looked like no one had done any upkeep on it for decades. Pro shop and grille area did look nice though. For the most part,, the staff was very friendly; although the folks trying to get people out on the course at the bag drop were overwhelmed due to only two people trying to handle all of the traffic. Could have used at least 2 more assistants. The biggest issue...SLOW PLAY DUE TO OVER BOOKING! We started at 2:01PM and got through 16 holes with the last two being past dusk. We could not finish the round. We were told by many people that this is typical of the Legends facility right now as they greatly over book tee times and rounds take 5-6 hours. When I get back to Myrtle some day, I will definitely not have the legends courses on the itinerary unless I know of changes to their business tactics. There are so many other great tracks to chose from now for the same or less $$$. I was saddened that the Legends didn't live up to its reputation and name.
Bad Shape- Good layout
The course is scenic and has many good designed holes. Overall though, the course is in rough shape. Lacks grass in many areas of the fairway, several bunkers lack sand. I realize the course is coming off winter, but for the money charged, I would expect a course in better condition.
Restaurant has decent food (basic bar grub), but service was awful. Took over an hour to order, get food, and check out. Most of the time was just waiting for our waitress.
Nothing special.
About average. Tees were in terrible shape. Bathrooms on course were very dirty.
Pace of play
The course is overbooked. It took us 3 hours to play nine holes. We had a 1:24 tee time and were unable to play 18 holes. We had to quit after nine. The course itself is very nice. It’s just not a good value to pay 70 dollars and only be able To complete 9 holes due to pace of play.
Great Layout but needs some TLC
Mooreland is a great layout. Greens are in good condition; fairways are good for this time of year.
The course is showing its age though, it could use a refurb.
Nice challenge course
Everything is great, except very crowded. Came out we played first nine hole twice to avoid the waiting time.
Nice time
Chose Legends because most other courses were closed due to the upcoming freeze. Cart attendants were helpful, did not have to wait for them to unload car or load up golf cart. Shop Staff was friendly and made us feel at home. Young lady in the bar was OUTSTANDING! Great service, great personality. And the lunch was very good!
Snail speed pace of play
No Ranger to help keep pace, paid for an 18 and only finished 13 holes and that’s thanks due to people quitting ahead due to sunset approaching. Took almost 3 hours to finish 9 holes. Be ready to wait, wait and wait some more.
Great course, racist outdoor staff
Played here on a GolfNow deal on Thanksgiving 2022. Course was in very good condition. Greens were quick and fairways were nice and green, though a pinch soft. Nice service in the pro shop and restaurant but outside was a different story. At the bag drop an attendant made a racist comment regarding a large group of Japanese golfers that just left for the first tee. He made it within earshot of two other players of Asian descent waiting to play. Got paired with a ranger who was playing on his day off. After 3 holes, he wanted to skip in front of another Japanese group in front of us. I didn’t think the group was playing that slow. Besides I paid to play golf and did not approve of skipping a hole. He tried to anyway but thankfully the group wouldn’t let him skip. So he hollared at them to speed up and we went back to the tee. The group quit at the turn and we had an open course. We played in right at 4 hours, which according to other reviews, is light speed. I am not Asian but I was embarrassed by how the outside staff treated other players of Asian descent. Their behavior was not representative of how I felt while at the course. Aside from that, the course was excellent. Otherwise I would have given a 1 or 2 star rating.
A great place to play.
I would recommend this course to anyone who really likes good golf courses. While it is very hectic in the beginning, because there were three courses at the property.
I will definitely play this the next time I am in Myrtle Beach.
Moorland Course
Great Challenging course. Greens were not the best.
Great friendly staff
The staff at the course were extremely helpful. Course was in great condition. Quite a bit of bunkers and a few blind shots. Tee boxes and greens were in great shape for this time of year. Highly recommend this course to anyone visiting the area.
