David : when analyzing the lie I also take into account things like how much room to do you have to carry the ball, are you hitting into the grain on the green . Hitting into an upslope on the green etc to help you pick the correct shot. The number one thing when you miss a green and leave yourself with a poor lie is to make sure you get the ball back on the green and eliminate making a bigger mistake an a double bogey. I look at lie and where saves place to leave or play the ball too first

In a bad lie one of the things that I think is critical is to keep the “motion” moving or going meaning your chest and body keep turning or rotating thru the ball not stopping or stalling.

There’s diff theories an Lfg thoughts on how to do this however w a poor lie I generally prefer to try and get your chest and body to turn and get forward or thru the ball to get the low point out in front of the ball.

I always start by learning to use my most lofted wedge for these shots

But I think as you develop as a player, it would help you to use all of your wedges and practice this it would create a matrix of a variety of different shots windows that you hit the ball through and roll out

It’s also great to try with all your wedges to develop different shots thy come out of different windows and have different roll
