I suggest reading how Tiger, Jack, and Ben Hogan chip.
One thing for certain, they are not chicken-winged at impact.
What works for you is good for you, don't change. You are much more coordinated than me to perfectly skim the ground with an open blade than I could, in my dreams, possibly accomplish.
