Chunked chips usually come from pinching the grip and locking your arms, not from lifting your head. Cindy Miller shows how moving your thumbs to 1 and 11 o'clock frees the clubhead to swing down, brush the grass and pop the ball up clean.

i seem to shank my chip shots any suggestions?
Does this translate to full swings with longer irons?
This is so helpful. I just got back from practicing it. It works with 60 and 50 degree. If I drag the handle of the club ahead of the ball I hit those line drives over the green.
When you address the ball, do you look at the right side, the center or the left side of the ball, especially if you're in the rough?
Terrific lesson...plainly spoken...no jargon...finally. Thank you!
I recently realized that moving my thumb as you explained felt right and produced better chips, nice to know I was correct (and why).
My biggest miss is sculling the ball across the green. I lose more strokes with short chips because of that. How do I fix that?
Cindy you are the best! So funny and entertaining that I want to do things your way. Going to try that as I hate chipping.
I keep hearing about thumbs down. You say the opposite?
Thanks for the tip Cindy. I’ve had feedback that I should have more weight on my left foot through the chipping swing. What are your thoughts on that?
