South Riding Golf Club
About
South Riding Golf Club is nestled in the gentle hills of northern Virginia, enjoying a landscape of hardwood forests and grassy meadows. The course offers a variety of challenges but the fairways are wide and player-friendly and the greens can be tough in spots but overall they offer some room for error. The layout requires both strategy and skill, it is definitely not a golf course where you will be able to just "grip and rip it." The course pinpoints your weaknesses but it is still a fair test. South Riding Golf Club's eighth hole is memorable for its difficulty but it's an interesting hole sine there are many ways to play it. At 351 yards, the hole is a short but intimidating dogleg left that will tempt you to go over the trees. The fairway is generous but the saddle-shaped green is flanked with bunkers.

May 14 playing conditions
Greens and fairways were recently aerated however the greens were running well. Give it another week or two and some more rain, the course will be in very good shape
Fast greens - poor pin positions
Good track and conditions with a variety of holes and risk/reward challenges.
However, a shame to putt on super fast and good greens (11-ish on stimp - love it) when pins were hopelessly set.
Yes, I get the A,B,C positioning and the need for rotating pins, but they were generally poorly set, mostly in slopes, and not on flatter areas.
It really seemed like the Sunday greenkeeper had no clue.
We were 4 decent golfers who got more and more frustrated. This also slows the pace down, as greens just become too difficult for most golfers.
Excellent Spring conditions
Course played in good condition for the spring. Staff was helpful on check in and the concessions were open until course closure.
Driving range mats were in poor condition and were set on a slight upslope. Grass driving area was closed.
Range balls were new and looked like they were just unboxed for the spring.
South Riding - great greens, rough needs mowing
Great course layout, lots of room. Greens are very good, pretty fast, with lots of slope. Bring a rangefinder - there are no yardages on carts. Get water at the clubhouse before starting - there is not a drop of drinking water on the course. Pace of play can be atrocious - there are lots of beginner players who do not now how to keep moving, and no on-course ranger - slow play is epidemic. Un-filled divots and un-repaired ball marks are everywhere. The rough is very thick and rarely cut, especially around the greens. Missing a green by 1 yard is like being in a bunker, but with weird bare patches, roots and clumps mixed in. The course IMO should mow its rough much more frequently.
Beat the Storm
Were able to play 10 holes before the huge rainstorm caught us. Course was in good shape. We were able to play fast.
Interesting
Nice layout. Flat. Good pace of play. Fastest greens I ever played. 10 foot putts just kept rolling.
Great Time
Had a great time playing the course. I will be back!
Decent course
I enjoy the course. There are a couple of holes you have to play smart. Pace of play was a bit slower than usual.
Staff friendly.
Nice layout but overwatered
Enjoyed the layout of the course, challenging but fun. However, I cannot understand why many of the fairways were soaked since there hadn’t been any rain for weeks.
