Neshanic Valley Golf Course is a 27-hole layout that sprawls across 420 acres of rolling farmland. It is the flagship course of the five-course Somerset County Park Commission system. The design team of Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry crafted the layout, which is divided into three nines called the Lake, Ridge, and Meadow. The nines can be played in different 18-hole combinations. The Lake/Ridge Course, as the name would imply, starts out with a few water holes. In addition to the lakes on the front nine, environmentally sensitive wetland areas come into play throughout. The fairways and greens are bordered by ample fescue and the putting surfaces are closely guarded by strategically placed bunkers. Neshanic Valley also offers a nine-hole, par-32 Academy Course, which is great for beginners.

Did not live up to the hype or ranking..

Positives

Good lay out

Beautiful vistas

Staff friendly

Negatives

Pace of play - brutal

No Marshalls - group in front took 25 mins to finish the first hole! One guy must have had 13 shots and still took out the flag for a putt..

Course is beat up - with so many hackers and just shear vol of play, tee boxes are a mess, no one repairs divots or pitch marks…you can see good it could/should be, but nothing like top 5 in NJ..

Pay extra and go play BallyOwens instead..or Heron Glen for less most days!

Never again..

Nice links type course

As long as you keep the ball straight, you’re in good shape, but if not, you’re in some heavy rough that is not fun. Greens were faster last time I played, but they were still in very nice shape.

Best public course in NJ

I've wanted to play this course for years and finally got the chance. This 27 hole course is quite the challenge. I would consider it a links style course. Trees don't come into play very often. There's high grass in the rough area on both sides of the fairway and surrounding the greens. I enjoyed the course. Best fairways I've hit off of for years. If you find the fairway as me I suggest you do, you will get a perfect lay. I would highly recommend this course. I drove 1 hour and 45 minutes to play it and will do again and again. Great course, can't say anything bad about it.

Nice Course

Have not played the course in two years; however, it was in great shape, fairways beautiful as well as the greens and bunkers in very nice shape. The wind was horrific and could not finish round since was too difficult to play with the 25-45 mph winds. The drawbacks of the course, no water on the course to drink, although use to give out complimentary bottles and the carts are regulated not to go above 10 mph and shut off once you get near the green or out of bounds, kind of a pain in the neck. The staff was very kind in that my father had a difficult time walking so they adjusted his cart to get closer to the greens. I would definitely recommend the course, bring your own water and understand the carts are extremely slow

Great scenic course in New Jersey

Beautiful course with three excellent public 9 hole courses and a grass driving range. They also have a private academy range and academy course. They alternate which two night holes you play and that keeps the pace of play going well. Course was in great shape and pace of play was good. Had another great time as usual here! Definitely one of the top public places to play in New Jersey.

Beautiful Neshanic

Great course, always fun to play. The only issue i have is even if you hit a good ball, it can be hard to find. The rough and fescue is deep and can be hard to find a ball even right off the fairway

Review

Great course. Greens, tee boxes, and fairways were in great condition and well maintained. Starter was kind and helpful for getting everything going. Only complaint was the course was backup up the wazoo, on 4 holes we were waiting 10-15 minutes to tee off. Other than that course and staff were fantastic.
