Windy Knoll Golf Club
About
Windy Knoll Golf Club is known among locals as being one of Springfield's best public golf courses. The course was built in 2001, though you would not be able to tell from its traditional links design. It manages to be a classic links golf course while still being a challenge. The site was originally a horse farm and the design incorporates some of the features from the terrain's former use. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are trees and rough lining the fairways. Golfers will find many risk-reward opportunities on the course, one good example being the par-4 eighth. This hole plays into the prevailing wind and if you miss your drive, you may find yourself in one of the eight bunkers surrounding the undulating green.

Coming Back
Greens and tees and fairways in good shape. Bunkers in good shape. I am not a fan of them letting the natural areas grow wild, it looks a little unkempt and weedy for my liking. Although I get the idea of it.
Great course
Played this course many time and still love it every time. Greens were a little rough from ball marks. Pace of play was slow but it was the weekend. 5 hours. Great course! Will definitely be back!
So disappointed
Since new ownership…there’s a different vibe overall. New GPS system is awful. 5 hour round due to slow play and GPS restrictions. Windy Knoll is known to have a Canadian Geese population problem..but it’s terrible…not to mention the goose crap all over the greens and fairways. $40 to $52 to play…c’mon.
Fantastic
So nice everyone was professional and nice!!
Loved it
Great Course
If you are looking for a course that presents a challenge, quality greens and is maintained well, then Windy Knoll is your course. My friends and I play this course several times a year and the experience is always the same. I have nothing negative to say, and would recommend this course to anyone looking for a good course and experience.
May Rain
With 10 inches of rain for the month of May…the course needs time to dry out. Back nine a bit wet as expected. Give it a week or so to dry and allow maintenance to get after the course. Not a big fan of new owners allowing the heather areas to encroach the course…this will lead to longer rounds as folks look for $5 golf balls. 🥴😂
New owners ! Just opened 5/1 . They are working hard to bring this course to glory! Local owners … give this course your time worth the value !
Perfect day
For November, the course was in great shape. Fairways and greens were perfect.
Needs Maintenance
Every cart had big chunks out of the corner of the seats. The cart paths were in terrible shape. The pin placements were all so that you were putting on a marble. AND last but not least the bathrooms were disgusting. The one and only on the course looked like it had not been cleaned all year.
Windy Knoll used to be an upscale course. not any more.
Pace of play disaster!
We quit after 12 holes due to the pace of play. We were 4 hours into our round and looking at another hour and 20 minutes before we would be done. In all it would have been 5 hours and 20 minutes. There was never a ranger in sight or anyone to move pace of play along. It was very disappointing . The course was in ok condition, very dry. I don't understand how anyone can take that long to play. It was just awful. If this is a typical round there I will never be back.
Bunkers were awful, not sand, just dirt. Greens very quick and in decent shape, rest of course dried out and rock hard.
Tee markers not well placed and finding proper tee locations a challegne.
Fast greens!!
All year we have been looking for a public course with fast greens. Everywhere we have gone that had a good cost the greens have been slow. I could not make the adjustment, and it caused me to lose a lot of strokes with my putting. My muscle memory was just stuck in the slower greens mode! :(
