About
Hutto’s been put on the golf map now that the first-class Star Ranch has opened up on what was once a cattle ranch, boasting a unique collaborative effort from the Morrish brothers (Jay and Carter) and the Bechtol, Russell design firm.
The course sits on a hill and is built around a centralized lake, featuring the typical spectacular Hill Country topography highlighted by plush, undulating fairways and bleached white sand bunkers.
No. 2 is one of the most difficult holes and the first real challenge of your golf day. The 417-yard par 4 has more of an open feel than some of the other holes, but it’s length generally means a rather long approach, and the green is surrounded by several massive bunkers.
Getting there : From Austin, take I-35 north and exit Parmer Ln. Turn right and go east on Parmer to Dessau Rd. Turn left and go north on Dessau, which becomes FM 685. Go 5 miles past FM 1825 in Pflugerville and the club is on the left.

Decent course
Course it was in good shape. Pace of play was good.
Lady in the pro shop must’ve been having a bad day. I wish her the best. Everyone else was very friendly.
Beautiful course in great shape but slow pace of play
Nice course, great layout and conditions. Only drawback was the pace of play. 3 groups of 4 some had their own little tournament going on and slowed everyone behind them. The ranger was on the course but did not address the issue of slow pace with those groups.
Great course in better shape.
Love the course. Do think the price is a little extreme however it’s more reasonable when compared to all the other courses in the Austin region as most have doubled in price over the last 4 years. With that said, Star Ranch is definitely a tier 1 public course in the area if not the best public course you can play.
First time playing but there were issues
Great price included free range balls, but range was closed when we showed up. Getting no warm-up was disappointing. They sanded the greens, but this was not mentioned at reservation. Maintenance workers were all over the course, including one who was watering the green we were trying to play on. Golf now reservations should somehow include this information from the courses so we can make an intelligent decision to play there or not.
One of the Best Public Course in Central Texas
This course is, in my view, one of the best public course in Central Texas. The layout is generally forgiving. The course is almost always in exceptional shape. The pace of play tends to be good. It is just a great experience all around.
Always a good time and in good shape
Course was in its standard good shape. They punched the greens a couple weeks back so they were a little sandy, but rolled pretty true.

Course was in good shape, but the greens were recently punched and they are recovering. Give it a couple of weeks and they should be back to running fast and smooth.
Mistake in booking
Zero consideration. When I showed up to the club house, I discovered that I had booked 2 tee times and paid in full for the wrong date. Understandably this left a hole in the day I was supposed to play, but I was willing and did pay for 2 rounds again. The club house seeing the mistake was clearly made and no refund was given for the rounds, I still had to pay not only full price but $50 more for the last minute bookings that were open.
First visit
This time of year in Texas is challenging to keep tee boxes in tip top shape. The greens are excellent and fairways are great. A few tee boxes were lacking at best, which is fair this time of year.
