Greens in poor condition Photo submitted by djmesser on 05/14/2021
Has a lot of poten
I’ve played the course as a visitor for the last few years, it certainly has potential, great layout, mixture of par 3 and 4 holes, tees in good condition, fairways are average, bunkers and greens are unfortunately sadly lacking in all departments. To be fair I understand some new company has bought it/are running it and there is evidence of people working on it, but at the moment it can only be described as an average municipal type course which is a real shame.
Just about Ok if you are playing for fun
We ended up booking this course as it’s our most local course and it was a last minute choice to play so all of the other locals within 10miles were booked. I called for almost 2hours straight prior to the booking to see if we could get a buggy as the person I was playing with had a bad foot. After roughly 40 calls, they answered, to tell me all the buggies were out (yet when we got to the course I didn’t see a single buggy and most the people playing were 1 ball or 2 ball groups max. Reception were quite rude and seemed annoyed to even have to take the question.
Now, the course itself. We paid £19.95 on a Wednesday at 11am.
I have played this course before and I actually like the layout and think it’s a great layout and yardage for higher handicappers (even though it’s quite a tight course)
First thing to bare in mind, which is no fault of the course, there are plenty of dog walkers, many with dogs off lead, one dog stole one of our balls off the green and you need to bare this in mind when teeing off, on pretty much every hole, unless you’re a very low handicap anyway.
The biggest disappointment with this course however, is the “greens”. It’s early May, weather has been fairly good, the greens are honestly appalling. We stopped scoring pretty much towards the end because the amount of bobbles, lack of grass, made them completely unreadable and it was more luck than judgement.
Fairways, for a course of this standard were “ok”, but if you aren’t on the fairway on this course you are in huge trouble, it goes from fairway to absolutely unplayable rough/trees/bushes. If you are above a 14/15 handicap you are going to lose balls. Bunkers were all out of action.
A real shame as it’s my local course and I hope from what I’ve heard that someone has/is taking over to make improvements.
For the money, Good
Very basic course but it should be expected. It’s great for a social and just to play a round but nothing much more than that. Really not a bad course in any respect, just as basic but maintained as it gets.
Upgrades
Not a bad course some greens are in need of repaire but you can see money is being spent on the course due to new saplings being planted. It will be a good course when it has matured.
Nice course
The course was in dry condition considering g all the raid, winter tees, fairways cut but a lot of grass left on the course, greens not in great condition several bunkers had no sand in, course well laid out.
Augusta Of The Midlands
Practice facilities give you a real flavour of what’s to come, the practice green is truly representative of how the greens play. If you can’t get on the practice green as other players are warming up, I’d suggest hitting some putts in the car park, this will also give you a flavour of what’s to expect
Unpredictable, undulating greens, coupled with bald patches to the putting surface and speed bump like marks left by the lawnmower make this a challenging test of golf for the most experienced of players.
Dog walkers down the middle of the fairway make it particularly difficult for the more accomplished players knowing a good shop could injure a person or their pet.
Get what you pay for i suppose
Playing off Matts when not needed isn’t great , course is ok , greens , well they are green in colour ……… for me , attitude of other players , single golfers trying to bully past , driving balls to within feet of us on more than one occasion, it’s a free for all out on that course , probably won’t visit again
Beginners course.
Decent course overall. Gotta allow for the ground conditions in the winter but it’s a good crack with your pals. Would recommend for beginners.
Greens condition
Good course just need to improve the greens as there not in great condition.
Overall good beginners course
Not a long course but does have some challenging holes.
What a difference a year makes
Wow! They've really spent some money in the past 12 months. The grass has been cut and it looks like they've re-laid some of the greens. Parts of the course still needs some work - the bunkers do not contain much sand - but, overall, this is a vast improvement. I would certainly now recommend this course to beginners and anybody who just fancies a quick practice at a reasonable price.
Bargain basement golf.
Tees generally in ok condition but greens were apalling with huge bare patches and tine marks, with tricky slopes and tough pin positions making this 108 slope rated course play more like a 125. Fairly interesting layout with trees to hit over and ditches to fly or lay up to. However no par 5s which was dissapointing. Wont be coming back in a hurry.
Gone downhill
This is a very public course with dog walkers and pedestrians strolling through which something you can cope with.
The fairways are okay. The greens however and are horrendously poor. I played here last year for the first time and the course wasn’t bad. I tried it again around 6 weeks ago and found it to be in poor shape (benefit of the doubt thinking it may just be early in the season)…returned this week to find the greens are in the same state of disrepair.
Again, it must be tough to keep it in check with pedestrians trapping through the course but personally I wouldn’t recommend.
Cannock Park Golf Course
Needs money spending on course because it has massive potential and better policing of public usage (walkers, bikes, dogs and playing without paying)
Greens
Greens condition not the best but the hot weather probably doesn't help.
