Farmers Field
Maybe I caught this course at the wrong time but it seemed to be a better fit for Mountain Goats rather than golfers! Very little, if any course definition. Fairways looked as though they hadn’t been cut in weeks. For me it was more like a council pay and play course rather than a members club. The course was poor but the clubhouse served a good cold beer after.
Hilly & Windy!
Royston is a challenge at the best of times with the numerous slopes and healthy walk - but this timeit was particularly challenging with a strong wind buffeting us around. Into the wind was tough to hit it far, while with the wind (and especially if downhill) it was difficult to stop it!
That said it was very enjoyable and the hospitality in the bar was excellent.
Great course
Really enjoyed playing Royston. Very challenging but good fun and good value for money. It is hilly with some tricky par 3s carved out of the hills.
Awesome, challenging walking course!
I am still new to golf, only been playing 6 months! This course offered some challenging holes but also spectacular greens and views and really quirky holes too! Great challenge and great fun course! Can’t wait to play here again
Fantastic course
Great golf course, enjoyed the challenges. Very hilly. Unable to have a bite to eat in the clubhouse as the chef was not in and after was looking forward to a beer but the clubhouse was booked for party, which was a shame. But the course for this time of here was in excellent condition.
Greens and course in excellent condition
Course in fantastic condition considering the amount of rain we’ve had recently. Greens running fast and true. Amazing job being done by the green keepers.
Great winter course
The course was in great condition given the amount of rain in the preceding days. Quite hilly so a good workout too. Fairways and greens all in decent condition. Tee boxes were OK.
Lovely but not fun
Chavs and general public litter the course making noise and standing in the middle of fairways when you’re trying to take your shots. With the hills it is more of a workout than an enjoyable round of golf. Staff were great and greens were amazing but wouldn’t play again.
Slept well
Had an excellent afternoon today forgot how fit you need to be to play Royston will certainly be back again soon
One for the purists
A test of golf in the purist form. The course is situated on a piece of heathland which is very undulating and also has amazing views.I believe it is chalk based, so is playable all year round. All in all a good test of golf especially in windy conditions and is good value for money.
Great course
It is a great coarse with challenging hills and tough rough. The only down side is the lack of a functional driving range to warm up.
Review
Course condition average. Fairways poor, greens good, quirkyness 10/10 . Worth a try.
Great course very tough walking
Royston is a lovely golf course, whilst overall quite short, it is very challenging as the terrain is part of Royston Heath and therefore it always seems more uphill than down. It is certainly challenging to walk on a hot day, as it was, and advise plenty of water and breaks.
The greens on the whole are very small (perfect condition) and there are areas you need to put your ball, which as it was only the second time playing here in 25 years, and my playing partners first time, it created more hazard.
