Selsdon Park & Golf Club

We booked this because Leatherhead had last minute cancelled. Unfortunately when we got there it turned out the course was closing for good that day. Such a shame, had played it once before and really enjoyed it. Considering the situation the green keeping staff and pro shop team had done a brilliant job and we all enjoyed the round if a little slow due to a couple of groups ahead. Surprised that the new owners were getting rid f the course but evidently it will be turned into a glamping site... sad days indeed!

I found this course incredibly challenging…as it was so undulating and hilly…I don’t think I had one flat fairway lie which caused me a lot of grief in the way of topped/fatted shots…

If you like this sort of thing then it is for you!

To enjoy this course, you should be below handicap 20. Greens and fairways are decent.

Very well maintained golf course.

Tee boxes need rebuilding. Difficult to find a flat stance!

On a plus note the greens were in better shape since last years neglect.

I’ve been fond of this course for multiple decades having previously worked there as a teen, and while things have definitely improved in recent years unfortunately a Saturday morning can be a nightmarish slog.

Today we, a three ball, were stuck behind a four ball who had multiple opportunities to let us play through while looking for balls for way longer than they should’ve been. We remained behind them for getting on for four hours and forty five minutes, and didn’t really enjoy repairing their pitch marks on every other green either.

What we also didn’t enjoy was nearly being killed by a wayward shot from another fairway when that group didn’t shout fore loudly enough for any human standing further away than ten feet to hear.

In the circumstances, and with such a mixed level of playing ability & more importantly understanding regarding etiquette, it’s not somewhere we’re going to rush to play again. That’s a shame because the course itself is in fine condition and it is a great challenge.

The staff in the pro shop were really friendly but stuff like pitch mark repairs, avoiding slow play & actually shouting fore louder than a mouse can squeak really need to be drilled into people before they leave the clubhouse.

Good course layout and interesting holes with enough challenge. But the quality of the greens was really poor, they were quite dirty and clearly hadn’t been attended recently which made putting a challenge. Fairways weren’t in fantastic condition either. To pay £45 for all of the above felt very over priced too. It’s a shame because the course could be really good if it got the attention it deserves.

The only small issue was the fairways grass needed cutting down as the ball had no run.

Apart from that the course is in great condition and would recommend to play here.
