Southampton Muni
First the positive, this is a great course with some excellent holes.
Now the negatives, the condition of the course is very average and reflects a significant level of under investment. Many of the tee boxes are uneven and very rough, on two holes there are mats which do not see to have any clear holes to insert tees.
The greens have recently been worked on for aeration and the lines meant putting was affected, in addition on some of the greens the grass was very long. There was also marks on a number of the greens where some vandals had done doughnuts with a motorbike.
If the course had lots of investment it could be so good, sadly this is unlikely to ever happen!
Conditions let it down
Can't grumble too much with the price of £25 but I played paultons the day before for £30 that was a different league completely. Long slow greens bunkers like concrete and to be off mats for two holes in may wasn't fun
Amazing condition given the price
Played here in April, early tee off on a weekday. Fully briefed on the condition of the course and greens by the gentleman behind the counter. Yes the greens had been sanded quite heavily but were actually running pretty well, given that most of February was a write off for the green keepers, I felt that this was fair. Only downside was that a couple of the greens and been damaged by idiots on electric bikes doing doughnuts, not the course teams fault and the only reason I haven’t given them 5 stars.
Value golf
A pretty course which can challenge a high handicapper!
The rough could be a little shorter result in fewer lost balls and faster play
The greens had been recently plugged making them slow and challenging.
But it is great value.
Very long par 4’s
Never played before. I would imagine great spring/summer/autumn. We have had a lot of rain so pretty wet. However greens and fairways could do with a cut.
Worth a visit
Greens were okay, fairways extremely dry and hard, but to be fair most courses are. Good layout, a good challenging course with several long par 4's. Only gripe was the pace of play, extremely slow. Maybe would have helped if there was a Marshall driving around
Great value lovely layout.
The course was really well set out with some amazing holes. Great club house. The only thing that let it down was the greens. Not very good.
The Council should be Ashamed!
I've played the good old Muni many years on and off and have to say that it's in the worst condition I've ever seen.
Fairways look like farmers fields, greens are bare and patchy and the tees are lumpy and overgrown. It's quite obvious that the council aren't putting any money into the course and it's overall condition is worse than when they PlayGolf owners had it. The council need to hold their heads in shame because at this rate nobody is going to play there and at £27.50 for 18 holes better value for money can easily be found elsewhere.

I love the municipal,,,, it’s a testing course,,,,, very “ park life”,,,
Everyone is playing from chavs to millionaires,,
Course was great,, tees,, fairways etc,,, greens were shocking,,,
Just about playable,,,, but still great value imo,
Play was slow as to expected ,,, lots of beginners but good fun,,
Exceptional
Over the years I have played many municipal courses, this one is exceptional. Well done everyone
Poor condition
Greens had been treated so putting through bunkers was the reality with amount of sand on 2/3 of greens. Those not treated needed cutting. Mats were poor condition most not takings tee easily. Play slow. Generally fairways were not great with masses of worm casts. Roll on summer and hopefully it will improve.
Not a Winter Course
I am sure this is potentially a reasonable course in the summer months but currently it is a bog and unplayable in many parts. This includes no distinction between fairways and light rough and, on several holes, temporary greens created almost randomly on areas of trodded, two inch grass turf with putting a lottery and no fun. I would be interested to see if fairways exist in the summer as the grass in those potential areas is simply not golf course grass and certainly not even. Very cheap at £17 but you still want to enjoy your round.
Great course
Southampton golf course was great. They lent my 15 year old son some clubs and we played 18 great holes of beautiful golf . The fairways were generous and the greens were immaculate.
It was a great day out.
Southampton municipal golf course
Course not holding up well to the wetter conditions. Very muddy and greens getting long . This is reflected in the price but probably won’t play here again until summer next year.
Poor. Poor. Poor conditions
The conditions were so unbelievably poor. The amount of putts and chips i had ruined by animal poo and mud clumps. The grass on the greens were the length that a fairway SHOULD be. And the “fairways” were the length and thickness of what rough should be. Really poor conditions and created a struggle on our play.
