Staverton Park Hotel and Golf Course

I have played this course a few times now and two stars is the lowest I have given it. The two issues today were members and course conditions. Increasingly we are finding that we are held up by members that because they have all day are happy to take all day. Took an hour to get through the first three holes. Pretty much waited for the hole round. I have a tortoise that moves around quicker. Even after the round a player from the group in front proudly announced it often takes them five and a half hours to get around. Maybe it’s a cunning plan to deter visitors. A course marshal is needed to speed up play.

The course itself wasn’t as good as usual. Tee boxes and fairways were fine. Bunkers were often devoid of much sand. Greens had been spiked which is fair enough but did make them inconsistent.

Overall though a nice undulating parkland course. Just caught it on a bad day hence the score.

Simply, don’t waste your money trying to play Staverton in Winter. The course isn’t maintained, the excuse is “ we are not busy during the week” No food, no working Handicap system, The practice area mats had no tees. No groundwork done on the course. No bunkers raked no fairways cut. Granted it’s late February but if you can’t maintain the course don’t open it. There’s a website but it doesn’t provide up to date info on course condition ( no trolleys all bags have to be carried). I feel I wasted my money and could have arranged to play elsewhere if basic information on what to expect was made available.

I have played Staverton many times and the course is always in great condition. Today was no different especially for the time of year.

Have played Staverton a few times and we really like the parkland layout. The course undulates well. Given the time of year the course was in excellent overall condition. Saying that the tees were a bit all over the place. Some off mats, some off tees. Felt like they don’t prepare well for winter golf. This probably explains why you couldn’t record a score on MyEG which was frustrating. A more structured approach is required to meet the requirements of winter golf.

Overall though a great course and we had a great visit on a very quiet day.

Always enjoy playing here, a few lovely right to left dogleg par 5's and 4's make it a worthwhile trip

Great course layout and long enough to really open the shoulders on, pace of play here us becoming increasingly an issue though.

Course understatablyhaa suffered from a lack of water on the fairways but Greens were very good and I love the layout.

Would certainly recommend using a buggy as its pretty hilly.

Great value late tee time.

BH weekend, very busy but pace of play not too bad. Played here a few times and it’s a great course layout with interesting holes. This time greens were average (at best) and the boxes needed TLC.

This is actually a good course with interesting holes. However the greens were slow and inconsistent the fairways had almost no grass cover and at one point there were 3 groups all waiting on the same tee.

The clubhouse is soulless and the staff charmless
