The Woodlands Golf Club

The tee boxes need work, and the greens had crab grass and bare spots. I’m a local and have played Woodlands many times and love the layout of the course but I’d rather play Cloverleaf anymore. At least their greens are in good shape.

I love the layout with the elevation changes. That's the main draw for me. Everyone that suggested it to me, years ago, raved about Hole #2, "The Cliff" as they accurately described it. The fairways are always nice!

The only downfall with playability this last time was the greens got a little disease going on. Apparently, it's a thing around here this year.

The major downfall that happened in the last couple years was the genius that flipped the 9s, because what's now hole #2 is a major bottleneck during peak hours. That was a horrible decision. I know, I know "but the driving range is I've there." Yep. So what.

Even still, I'll be back, however it won't be on the weekends or holidays.

For a local Alton area course, I give it 4 stars. Alleviate that bottleneck, and I'd give it 5.

Had a great time at Woodlands and staff were very accommodating and friendly. The golf course was pretty nice and challenging. I have played here before several times and have always enjoyed it.

This course has a nice layout but the conditions were not good. Fairways were fair and the rough contained lots of crabgrass. The greens were ok. Had to call the clubhouse to fill the water jugs because it was 90 degrees out and the jugs were empty and they never did come out and fill them. The slow play was ridiculous but it was a Sunday however it was still very slow. We will not be returning to this course and will not recommend it for play. It was a nice course in its day but has declined over the years.

Long time member, years ago. 7 days a week memberships Golf league and so on. But it’s been a couple years since we have played here. I appreciate the efforts and hard work it takes to affect the good changes made here. But those greens. Wow. The only greens worse than Woodlands are Lockhaven. I satisfied my curiosity by playing today. But it will be awhile before I come back. It’s sad. We have so many good memories golfing here.

Challenging , reasonable price and many improvements.

Came for a twilight round and there was a tournament going on. Pro shop didn’t know where to fit us, so they threw us in the middle of the tournament and a worker pointed us to the hole. The group behind us started chirping us about being dropped off in front of them which escalated into an argument about the marshal placing us there but there was no Marshall with us.

First time playing this year but the course was green.

Just like most places, weekends can get pretty busy, so expect a slower pace of play. The staff is excellent and always makes for a good experience. Definitely bring plenty of balls—for some reason, we lose more at Woodlands than any other course. Overall, for the price, it’s still a fun course to play and worth checking out. Highly recommend.

9:00 tee time. They were “backed up” due to morning frost, despite the fact there was no frost in the morning. It never dropped below 40° the night before. Roll up to Hole #1 five minutes before our tee time and it’s TWELVE carts deep waiting to tee off. Why not start sending people out on Hole#10, or shotgun start?

Tee boxes were a muddy mess. It was nearly impossible to tee off between the stakes anywhere on the course.

Greens were decent; where ever there were not weeds. Heavy weed growth having a severe impact on putts.

One hole we were in chipping distance, and had to pause so that a worker could spray the green with chemicals

Won’t be going back. Too many other nicer courses in the area.

I have lived in St. Louis area for almost 20 years but played yhis course for the first time ( I played 50+ rounds every year). The course layout is pretty and unique. Condition is decent as a rural public course. Staff are friendly. Other players have good etiquette. I should have played here more!
