About
Chevy Chase Country Club (formerly known as Traditions at Chevy Chase Country Club) in Wheeling is one of Chicagoland's top public golf facilities. Thomas Bendelow designed the golf course in 1925. The classic layout remained largely the same until 2002 when a major renovation updated the course and made it more challenging. The layout now has deep pot bunkers lined with tall native fescue that border the generous, rolling greens and undulating fairways. Though it is more challenging than it was, the golf course still offers a player-friendly round. Four sets of tees also ensure that golfers can play to their skill level. The course finishes with its signature hole, a par 5 that features water both left and right of the landing area off the tee. Three massive bunkers and yet another pond all fiercely guard the green as well.

Great place
Play here about 4-5 times a year. Never fails to impress me. Greens were a bit rough, mostly from people dragging their feet and not fixing their divots. Love this place and highly recommend!
Chevy Chase
Course was in really nice condition. Greens rolled nicely, fairways and tee boxes were lush, and bunkers were well kept. Only criticism was that the course was maybe a little too soft on the day I played, but that’s me nitpicking.
The layout isn’t very difficult, as the majority of holes are straight and not super long. If you keep the ball relatively straight off the tee and are smart about what club you tee off with, you should be able to score pretty well.
Overall this place was great. The bar had a nice deal on beer buckets, they had coolers on the cart for drinks, and the hot dogs were solid. The carts had a nice GPS system as well. Only bummer was not having a range, so I hit some balls at a range about 10 minutes away on my way out from the city to get warmed up, which ended up working out great. I’ll definitely be back to play again!
No mention of greens being aerated!!!
I’m shocked, after playing here 4 times in the past two months, I couldn’t believe that the greens were aerated. There was no mention of this while reserving or paying for the golf. I don’t think that it’s the right thing to do when you have people playing and paying. Not cool and unfortunate because I truly love the layout. It’s just not a whole lot of fun to play on greens like this. The ball only goes in on a fly. You almost have to play the dime sized holes to make it bounce in! Sorry guys but this was a total embarrassment to me for bringing 3 guys out there to play as my guests. It’s a bad look and me but more importantly it’s a horrible look on you and your team. You could have at least rolled the greens and had at least the opportunity to knock it in and not bounce it in. It will be a few weeks before they recover but in time they will for sure!
Would’ve been nice to know they aerated the greens
I love your golf course and it’s always a blast to play. I booked my teatime just before that and unfortunately, no one told me that aerated greens were gonna be. Destroying putts the entire day. The ball never stayed online, it bounced all over the place and the only way to get it to go in the hole was to get it to fly in seriously maybe hit a bump or a dime sized hole with sand that wasn’t rolled, totally different and they rolled every green before play. They definitely didn’t cut them. That’s for sure, rolling them is the least you could do. I understand you may be shortstaffed now that it’s September but that’s no excuse for not just rolling the greens. Once again, I’m embarrassed to bring my groove out. This time it’s your course sometimes it’s elsewhere but never should it be unannounced that you’re doing aeration. That’s totally necessary at a course what stinks is not knowing. It would’ve been no big deal to play elsewhere and come back here in two weeks.
Fun as always but the greens were a little slow. Definitely expected though throughout this rough August.
We had a wonderful round at Chevy Chase. The fairways look great. The tea boxes were excellent, the bunkers not quite raked yet but that’s because we played at 6:30 in the morning. No big deal. Not sure if the greens were gonna get cut but by the time we had gotten off and none were caught yet and that was about 10 AM. By 10 AM if they’re not cut, they’re probably not gonna be which would’ve been no big deal and I’m not left a dozen or so putts short of the cup. No big deal if they’re all the same and everybody in your. Group is well aware of the speed. Everybody was so like I said it’s no big deal. The golf course is an excellent value at $54 including the cart. Where else can you play at 6:40 in the morning including cart fees for 54 bucks. Not a single place near there except for the golf course at the Marriott Lincolnshire, which wouldn’t be considered a golf course. It’s called Crane’s Landing. It should be called. We have 18 tee boxes and 18 greens so if you want to call us a golf course that’s fine. Back to Chevy. As always like I said this place is a blast. Condition is never an issue. Today’s conditions were about as bad as it gets here and that would say this place is awesome because the condition was great. Sure the greens were slightly slow, but that’s no big deal as long as one’s not fast than one slow, and then another one really really fast and then another really really slow. They remain consistently slow throughout the round. That makes me happy and I will definitely be back shortly because I know what I’m getting when I pay the $54 there a great golf course, a great conditioned golf course at that. And to top it off, it’s only $54. Wow, that buries other courses in the area that charge $75 or more. Ones over by the lake in the Wilmette area and in the Winnetka area really nail you for about 100 bucks including the cart on the weekends and about 85 bucks on the weekday. Absolutely insane. Those golf courses are much more money and are not in as good of shape usually. I’ve played Chevy Chase about five times this summer and I’ll be happy to play at five more this fall.. thanks for putting together a beautiful product because it warrant and thank you for me. Thank you for making it what it is, a total blast for everybody in the group.!!!
Excellent course
Challenging layout, bentgrass fairways in great condition smooth greens
Nice track
Very slow play. Longest round in the last five years for me. It lasted 5 hr and 10 minutes. Course was great but the pace of play was horrible. And no ranger here!!
Awesome
Exceeded my expectations. First time playing this course, I will definitely be back with friends
Good local public course
This course is always in very good shape. Despite being flat, there is some visual interest and challenge. They should add a set of combo tees to the score card because the tips are 6,600 yards, and the next set are 6,000. I think there’s a similar gap/opportunity among the more forward tees. The only other downside is the lack of a driving range, and they just don’t have the land for one.
Chevy is in nice shape.
This course maintenance is immaculate.
Fairways running, greens running, bunkers in great shape, rough somewhat mild clovery.
Practice putting green but no driving range.
First time I have played this course since the the mid-late 80s so the remodel is new to me.
I've always liked the layout...it's more than just up and back.
It was a hot day and I was a single with no place to go...I ended up only playing 11 holes.
This is a nice course...go play it.
