River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

Late Start/Slow Round/Poor Conditions
We had a 12:45 time and were not informed until arriving that there was a 30 minute frost delay. Normally, most courses catch-up by noon. River Vale decided to send players off on the first and tenth tees which backed up the entire course. We did not start until 2:00 PM, had a slow round and were not able to finish before sunset. In addition, the course conditions were unacceptable with linear aeration lines on the greens that were not close to playable.
Slow play and dangerous. A lot of blind shots
where golfers carelessly hit up on you without
checking to see if the coast is clear.
Pace of play slower second nine
We finished the front nine in 2 hours
Suddenly the pace slowed dramatically beginning on the back. It appeared there was a twosome added two groups in front of us who played slowly. The back nine took 2 and 1/2 hours

Really nice track , greens fast ( need more fixing divots) if u land on green fix it , also besides the nicest staff they have the best carts around , thx !
You should try this course in NJ!
This is one of the nicest course in NJ. Especially if you play in Bergen County.
River Vale Country Club
I had a very enjoyable round at this golf course. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming from the moment I arrived, which set the tone for a great day. The course conditions were very good overall, with well-maintained fairways and greens that played true.
The layout is enjoyable and offers a nice mix of holes that keep the round interesting and challenging. Pace of play was fair, allowing us to move around the course comfortably without significant delays.
Overall, it’s a well-kept course with a great atmosphere, friendly service, and an enjoyable layout. I would definitely return and recommend it to others looking for a pleasant day of golf.

I play here at least twice a week and always in great shape.

The course is in great shape considering where we are in the season. Ruff is very long, though, and needs trimming. Going forward, I’d like to see a first and second cut, Almost all holes are second cut only, which makes the course much more difficult and leaves no real margin for error or recovery. If you miss the fairway (or the green off the par e3s), you are toast.
