October is a transitional month for many golf destinations. Many desert courses in southwest spots like Las Vegas and Scottsdale prep their courses with extensive overseeding procedures. Meanwhile, courses in the north get the last few rounds of the year in as the leaves turn color and fall. Golfers fret over the potential of an early snowfall that may shut down their local haunts for the season.
It's fitting that the the best course of the month, based on your ratings and reviews, is a course that manages to skirt the ails of a transitional season. Las Vegas Paiute, located north of the strip, has earned a reputation as a rare opportunity to enjoy the cooler weather of fall golf without the cumbersome aspects of transitional conditions. The course is set at a higher elevation than Vegas and maintains its course Rye grass all year long.
There are many no-brainer tips we give golfers at Golf Advisor and one of them is that if you're headed to Vegas in the fall, when other courses are closed or soggy and cart-path only, look no further than Paiute.

Just finished a weekend at Pinehurst. The short course is a big hit. There were hundreds of people around the clubhouse, playing or just walking the Short Course, putting on Thistle Dhu Putting Course, the putting green, the practice greens and driving range. As well as, those sitting out on the 91st Hole's Veranda. I have never seen so many people out in the late afternoon enjoying themselves around the clubhouse area.
