About
Although it is tucked away just north of Hampstead, Castle Bay Country Club will make you feel as though you've been transported to the British Isles. The golf course offers an authentic Scottish-links design that incorporates the natural wetlands of its coastal Carolina location, giving it a truly unique character. The landscape of rolling dunes is covered with native grasses but completely devoid of trees. Tall sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout and there are also expansive waste areas, both characteristics that are true to its links nature. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Accurate shot placement is the key to doing well on this course and just like any seaside links layout, the coastal breezes play a prominent role. Much of the difficulty of the golf course comes from negotiating with the prevailing winds.

Great course great fun
Staff and course was excellent. First time playing hope to be back. Golf cart GPS and operation needs to be improved, don’t trust the length and it know exactly where you are on the remote parts of the course.
Need a redo... Had fun
Castle Bay was a challenging and well taken care of course. I will remember to lay off the driver next time. If you are a long ball hitter keep the driver in the bag most holes. This is more of a management style course. 5 wood- hybrids will get you into play much better. Fairways are narrow and most holes you are hitting into the fairway from left to right. Easy to drive through them and get in trouble. Smart play is required.
Golf cart GPS and slow play
The golf cart gps system had the wrong pin placement on every hole. Too many groups on course, had 3-4 groups on almost every hole, groups needed to be spaced out for better pace of play, gave up after playing 13 holes, there were 15 groups on the course ahead of us and it had already taken over 3 hours to get to the 14th tee
Great condition
Greens and fairways were is AMAZING shape, especially with the recent drought. Nice driving range too, and a nice selection of golf balls/gloves in the Clubhouseb
Castle Bay in July
Course is plush and in great shape. Greens were rolling nice. Carts have GPS, good bang for the buck.
Great day at Castle Bay
Great course, nice range, putting green, and friendly staff. This course offers challenges to the good player but also enough forgiveness for the novice that it's fun regardless of skill level. I love playing this course and appreciate how well they maintain it. I also like the bar and restaurant for a mid-round hotdog, or after golf drink and meal.
Very friendly staff (especially starter, ranger, and beverage cart).
Course layout has a good variety of holes.
Worth the drive from Wilmington compared to our public play options in town.
Best Course in Hampstead Area (and it's not even close)
Great course, great staff, great Club Pro. No two holes are similar on this course, it has a good layout and is always in good shape despite weather conditions. The greens are reasonable quick especially after a mow. Only knock is that the pace seems to get real slow at times but the rangers do their best to address it. It has become the only course worth my money in the Hampstead area.
