Foxfire Resort & Golf Club - Grey Fox Course

About
Designed by renowned architect Gene Hamm, Foxfire's Red Fox and Grey Fox Course are an excellent test of golf for all skill levels. Bermuda fairways wind through towering pines, around rolling hills and past pristine, clear lakes. Water comes into play on nearly a third of the holes. Bent-grass greens are well- maintained. Both 18-hole championship courses feature the "Kirby Marker System" of precise yardage measurement. Both courses are open for daily play and make an excellent combo for someone wishing to play 36 holes in a single day

great value , nice layout
Played golf three days in Pinehurst area and this was the best of the 4 star courses I played. Course had a lot of elevated tees and greens and water came into play on a few holes. to make it interesting. fairways were overseeded and green while greens were in excellent condition.
Greens in really good shape as were the fairways and rough
It was the East course that I played . Moderately tough and a good test. Very nice condition from putting green on.
Starting to get needed attention
The course has good bones but maintenance seems to have gotten away from them. Perhaps all the rain earlier. The greens were punched a couple weeks ago and are finally getting back to rolling properly though still some dead patches. The fairways are ok but they've been narrowing them. Seems they will be widening them a bit as some paint markings were on the course to indicate that. Roughs are better than they were but still can lose balls even a few feet off the fairway. Goose grass is a problem on the fairways in several areas. Gravel/stones in some of the bunkers.
Decent course but need to attend to maintenance to be on par with other courses for the money.
Course is still recovering a green aeration, however, great value for the money!
The first hole Par 5 dogleg right on the Grey Fox course sets the stage for challenging golf day --- a 220+ yard carry over water or driving the ball straight between a tree left and water right. Excellent course layout and will return in a couple weeks when the course recovers from the current aeration conditons.
good course and great value
nice course, good service and great value. The course is properly maintained even the green could be better. However, field is wide open
Nice Course - Must try when it is DRY.
Unfortunately, I can't say much beyond it appeared a nice course and looked to be "draining well". It started raining on #3, and by #5, it was solid rain and never let up. We didn't see anyone else on the course. When we finished 18, everything was closed up. We got 2+ inches steady rain.
Great course
Fun course to play,it was in great shape,it pays to think about club selection and not pull driver on every hole
Fine course; great value
Foxfire-Gray Fox is a moderately difficult course (they are all hard for me), but very enjoyable to play. The greens were apparently aerated recently, as they are slow and bumpy. But there are no dead spots on either the greens or fairways. Overall, condition was very good. There is a problem with ants--small ant hills are everywhere except on the greens.
Beautiful course with some challlenging T-shots accross water from the white tees.
Very pleasant course. The fairways are in excellent condition.. The grass on the green was too long, hence putting was somewhat slow. The staff in the pro's office, cart service and on the course is extremely friendly and helpful. Recommended course for its price.
Very good experience!
Foxfire's staff is super! They meet you at your car with a cart, load your bags, and if you haven't played there before, they will happily give you advice on the course or conditions. Speaking of conditions, course was in great shape for January. Weather was a bit cool (light jacket), but the fairways were lush and green and the greens rolled true. Pace of play was ideal, We were waved through by a four-some who were smoking cigars and drinking beer and were the happiest 4 golfers golfers I have ever seen! ! My son and I played in 3 1/2 hours and played the front nine again with no waiting. A very good 4-star experience! You can't go wrong here.
Great course given the condition
Greens had just been punched which led to unpredictable putts. We were aware of this before we booked. All in all this was a great course I will enjoy playing this once the greens are given a chance to fill in.
Very scenic and playable. Good elevation changes.
Great value. Course is very scenic with a good amount of water. From the white tees the course is challenging but fair. A few blind shots but it makes it interesting. A fair amount of bunkers. Pace of play on a Sunday morning was very good. I've played 12-15 courses in the Pinehurst area .... This is a must play when you are in the area.
Course was in very good shape. No hold up in play. Fun course to play.
We wanted to play golf in the Pinehurst area on the way back from the Masters. We got a great rate on GolfNow.com for the Foxfire East Course. The course was in great shape and it was a pleasure to play nice green fairways after a long winter, or at least long for North Carolina. I would recommend this course.
Fantastic Gene Hamm Layouts
New ownership has brought marked improvements. Green complexes well maintained, but bunkers are still thin and in need of added sand.
New golf carts add to the experience. Greens improving daily now that spring weather is here.
A good value and a challenging layout will not disappoint.
Great staff - fun golf course
The staff was great and very courteous. Had trouble finding our reservation for a brief couple of minutes but gave us a small bag of range balls to "compensate". Very good layout and fun to play - greens were slower than expected but I would recommend to anyone want to play true "Sandhills Golf"
good layout, good value for the money
greens need work, hopefully new ownership will bring them back
Will be nice in a few weeks.
I enjoyed the round. However the greens had been recently aerated and were patchy in places and I would have liked to have known. I am sure in a few weeks the course will be in great condition. The staff was very friendly, and were quick to bring us another cart when ours died out on the course. Luckily the deal from golfnow made it worth the drive from Raleigh!
Decent Value Course for the Area
Nice course, especially for the price. I have played it twice now and have enjoyed myself both time. Does not compare with many of the other courses in the area, but is definitely worthwhile for a change of scenery and for a cheaper round. Everyone there is very friendly, pace of play has not been a problem, and the course is designed nicely. The second time the greens were rough due to aeration, but I was aware of that before booking.
This is a fun course
Elevation changes, doglegs, water, and a variety of tees make this course as challenging as you want to make it. You will want to play more than once to get all the nuances offered by this course.
Fox Fire, Red or Gray course is a wonderful golfing experience.
The Gray is a very challenging course even from the white tees. You are greeted in the parking lot with your cart and instructions in case you haven't been there before. The pro shop staff is very friendly and polite. Greens were in excellent condition for this time of the year. The only negative that I have every had about the course are the geese that reside on the course. There are several holes where you have to walk very strategically. Every time there is a hot deal with Fox Fire, it will be on my play list.
