My girlfriend recently decided she wanted to learn how to play and after a number of days on the range and several Par 3s, she wanted to play a "real" course. She used to live a couple of miles from Pine Ridge so we thought it would be a good first course.
Of course it's got a lot of hills, but overall it's fair. The fairways were in good shape, and the greens were soft although a little burnt and considering the down town the golf industry is in, that wasn't surprising. What the course lacked in flat landing areas was more than made up by the rate, pace of play and the friendliness and the welcome we were given by Billy Slate.
The only "beef" I personally had was the tree right in the line of sight off of the 7th tee, otherwise, compared to other municipal courses and small, affordable courses within an hour, I enjoyed it.
We live an hour away and because of the conditions, price and Billy, I'm sure we'll be back at some point.
